Strength:
Good quality of optic. Very very sharp pictures. Same as newer version
Weakness:
slower focusing speed, abit loud operation For the people don't need the faster focusing speed, and quieter operation. The optical quality is the same as the newer AF-S version. (Even though, the newer AF-S version has more ED glasses. If you are tight in budget, and need high quality 80-200 lens, take this one. Customer Service very good Similar Products Used: Nikkor 80-200 F2.8 ED AF-S |

Need a monopod at zoom over 180mm. (your hands start to shake since it's quite heavy) I found that the tripod collar version (newer version) focuses much faster than the non-tripod collar verison. Customer Service not needed yet. Similar Products Used: Nikon 180 2.8 AF- D |

Very Sharp!!!
Weakness:
NONE..once you get used to the weight. I bought this lens a few months ago used. I use the Tamron most of the time because its light and has great Focal range. Whenever I really want sharp, vivid color pictures I change to the Nikon 80-200. Its a bit heavy but its worth the weight. Customer Service never needed Similar Products Used: Tamron 28-105 2.8 & Nikon 35-70 2.8 |

Review for the Push-pull AFD version. Fast, Very sharp, great contrast and colour reproduction. Almost matches primes in the same range. Great construction. Love the zoom action for hand-held shots. Very well frictioned for manual focus (My system is a F100 and an F3 - this lens is a pleasure to use on both.)
Weakness:
Heavy. Relatively slow autofocus (OK with F100). No tripod collar - tripod shots not convenient with Kirk adapter in vertical format. Lens should not be used with tripod fixed to camera body on non-pro bodies. Picked the push-pull version up for a good price in excellent condition. If the price of the newer two-ring version is a bit steep for you, look out for this version at a good price - you will not be dissapointed. I am using a Kirk - adapter for tripod shots - am in the process of devising a more usefull adaptor for vertical shots. Great optics in a robust package - sharpnes and overall quality of images at all focuss lengths and all f-stops are trully amazing. This is a top-quality product that should be owned by any Nikon user. Similar Products Used: 28-105 f3.5-f4.5 (Not is same leage) |

AF80-200mm f/2.8D AF-S IF-ED Zoom-Nikkor
Strength:
Batter optics as compared to the non AF-S version. The M/A switch is a plus feature found in this version. Autofocus speed is just incredible though the non AF-S version is already fast. With a pro body like F5 (mine)or F100, you cannot go wrong with this combo. I like every aspect of this lens and you will notice the differences when you have your print back from the lab and just enjoy its quality. I have own the two versions and like the AF-S one thoroughly. When used with AF-I teleconverter, autofocus is still maintained but slower a bit. You get 160-400mm f/5.6 with the TC-20E (2X) and we are talking about flexibility here. I just cannot see any difference with and without TC! Its color production, picture sharpness, and contrast are all first rate.
Weakness:
None to date. I know it is quite expensive but it worth every penny. This is a professional quality lens and it is surely a winner in every sense. It works great and looks beautiful as well! Never had such a nice lens before. I use it for almost everything from landscape, portrait and micro with extension tube. Its bokeh when shoot for portrait is just spectacular. Strength:
This is a killer medium range zoom. I use it at my son's track meets where I can get within about 50 feet as well as for water skiing photography from 30 to 75 feet. Most shots are wide open at f/2.8 where the depth of field is nice and shallow while the lens is razor sharp.
Weakness:
Weight again, but this comes with the territory. "Strengths" above says it all. A truly superb lens. Customer Service None needed yet. Similar Products Used: AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8, AF-S 400mm f/2.8, 70-210mm f/4-5.6 |

Had dust inside brand new(!), got an exchange from B&H This lens is heavy (especially on my F4s), but what a bargain compared to the AF-S. My favorite portrait lens, replacing my longtime favorite 105 2.5 AIS. How come they cannot include a cheap plastik hood (HB-7) at this price? How did the dust get into a brand new lens?? Customer Service B&H was great, sent another one before I had even returned mine Similar Products Used: 35-135 Nikon, 105 1:2.5 Nikon |

1. Difficult lens cap removal with HB-7 lens hood attached; A sharp and contrasty lens. Would like to see Vibration Reduction installed on the next generation of Zoom-Nikkor 80-200 mm lenses. Customer Service Have used once to displace the internal dust. The Nikon technician removed the screws near the front edge of the lens and forced compressed air into the screw holes to displace the dust particles. Since this lens was purchased used, the warranty had expired. Nikon would have charge $299.00 Canadian plus taxes to disassemble, clean and reassemble the lens. The waiting period would have taken at least two weeks because the technician was busy with other lenses. The dust particles were dispersed to the edges of the lens element and the picture quality was never affected, however.
