Strength:

None

Weakness:

Failoff

I love this lens! It is built like a thank, has an excellent balance and is sharp. Beside it''s less of distorsion it makes beautifull pictures with an unsharp background due to its aperture-rings. Only weakness is a strong failoff.

Customer Service

used severall times, mostly good

Strength:

Quality of images, Focusing Speed, Lack of noise, Removable tripod collar, Quality of construction, Handling, Real lens hood! to name a few....

Weakness:

No point nitpicking about the weight - it comes with the territory.

It's expensive - but you get what you pay for.

Strength:

Tack sharp pictures,F/2.8 is a real attribute, colors are excellent

Weakness:

Heavy but still manageable.

This is an extremely nice lens, you could never make a mistake by purchasing this lens. It is fast and sharp as a tack. If you are a people photographer you will love this lens. I have just recently purchased this lens and have shot only two rolls of film with it, but a really great two rolls, outdoor close ups are stunning. I love this lens. By the way, you will get used to the weight and size of this lens, attach it to your camera and it will draw a crowd, guaranteed.
Buy it and ENJOY!!

Strength:

Sharpness through all range, f/2.8 on a zoom lens is great to have if you can afford it.

Weakness:

It is to heavy, but what can you expect for a f/2.8

It is the best zoom len I had ever had. If you can afford it buy it in a heart beat.

Strength:

Obvious fast speed. Incrediable sharpness, even wide open at all focal lengths. Fast focus, even on N90s. Front ring does not turn during focus/zoom changes.

Weakness:

Weight, but you can't have this range and speed without it.

I'd have to agree with just about everyone on this lens - it's super sharp all the way through. Shooting portraits wide open gives fantastic looks. It focuses quickly on the N90s. I have the latest two-ring version (non S). This version is about half-a-pound lighter than the 'S' version (when that version has the tripod mt. attached). No compatability for AF with Nikon converters but this has not been a problem for me. A converter would add unnecessary weight and also cut depth-of-field too much. For the money you can't go wrong with this lens. Optically and mechanically a gem!

Customer Service

As usual, never needed.

Strength:

VERY sharp.
VERY solid.
Nice crinkled black finish.
2 ring zoom/focus.
Focus limiter switch.
Nice auto/manual focus ring.
Tripod collar mount.

Weakness:

Very heavy - good for beating off muggers & thieves.

A beautiful lens! I got mine used for a decent price (still a lot of dough). Good sharp images at f5.6. The auto-focus is a little slow, but in most cases it didn't affect my shooting. My left arm is now twice the size of my right arm from hefting this beauty (Charles Atlas, beware!). If you want a good, midrange zoom lens - this is the one to get!

Model Reviewed: AF80-200mm f/2.8D AF-S IF-ED Zoom-Nikkor

Strength:

Razor sharp, excellent optics and well made. As sharp as any of Nikon's fixed focal length lenses in this range and even sharper than a lot of them.

Weakness:

Heavy, large and expensive, but makes up for the inconvenience with outstanding images.

One of the sharpest lenses Nikon has ever made and worth the money, if you know you will be using that focal length.
