Strength:

superb image quality,
solid feel,
fast focusing

Weakness:

Would be nice if tripod collar had indents every 90 degrees.

This lens is perfect for outdoor portraits and indoor sports. BUY IT!!!! Even though it's pricey, you'll forget about the cost when you see the images you get. My Tamron 100-300 is now a paper weight.

Customer Service

Never had a reason to call them.

Strength:

Super fast focussing. Excellent image quality and produces great color rendition with velvia film. hard to handle when lens hood is reversed and tripod collar is mounted.

Weakness:

Image quality with a 2x converter is not as great as I would like it. Bulky with lens hood inverted and collar attached

It is a great lens for portaits and some sport photography. It is not ideal for wildlife because it lacks the clarity with a 2x converter. I do suggest, however, that anyone serious about photography own one of these. The price is really not too bad when you consider the image quality, lens speed, and durability of this lens.

Strength:

Fast AF ! Unlike other zooms in this range, photos taken by this lens are unbelievably sharp even at 200mm with 2.8 !

Weakness:

Heavy ! Long body....not easy to handhold !

I bought this used for a very good price. It is in like new condition and i am really happy to get this awesome lens at such a reasonable price. No other zooms in the 70-200 focal range can beat the quality of the photos this lens can achieve. Very fast and silent AF and sharp sharp sharp images ! Superb lens for portraiture but at a very high price !!!

Strength:

Good contract, very sharp optics, bright view finder

Weakness:

a bit bulky to carry, especially with the tripot ring attached, make it hard to put into camera bag

I have used the len for more than one year and developed over 50 rolls with it. It never let me down. It is a very fast and quiet focusing len. With its large aperture, the view finder is extremely bright.

It perfectly matches with my EOS3 and it have produced stunning pictures of portrait as well as landscape. It works well with the 2x converter and it is particularly useful when taking pictures of sunset.

Overall comment: A benchmark in 35mm telephoto. Never regret to have it.

Strength:

Sharp across the board...even wide open at F2.8. Works great with 1.4X TC. Focusses much faster than the competition.

Weakness:

It, like all F2.8 lenses in this range is heavy...if you don't need the speed consider the new F4 version. It is expensive!

Excellent in every respect. If you can afford it, don't deny yourself this lens.
Even though it is expensive I have to give it a 5 in value because it's main competitor, the Sigma 70-200 F2.8 is a notch below in image quality and focus speed.

Customer Service

I hope I never need it.

I originally bought the Sigma but returned it for the Canon which turned out to be much sharper at F2.8 and focus much faster with the 1.4X TC attached.

Strength:

awesome lens, incredible optics, razor sharp from edge to edge, perhaps the best lens of it's kind.

Weakness:

None.

If you want the fastest 70-200 around, with the best optics, this is your lens. For those who whine about the weight, the little brother of this lens is the right choice, for me I love the speed and excellence of the images. It is the perfect second lens on my D30

Customer Service

Excellent.

Strength:

Very, Very sharp. I do a lot of my own color printing and I can see the difference between this and other lenses, even with IS. Very fast auto focus with Canon professional bodies. Great for low light sports. It is heavy but I can do a whole basketball or football game with it. Monopod helps. 2X ex good. Great lens hood to reduce flare.

Weakness:

Not much of anything. Have shot a couple of thousand pictures with it.

I have used this lens for sports, wildlife, for head shots at dark wedding receptions, for portraits, and for all kinds of newspaper pictures. Although it is not my only lens it is by far my favorite. I hand hold it a lot. It is worth every cent I paid for it and I try not to buy equipment that doesn't make money for me.

Customer Service

I belong to Canon CPS. Have heard they got pretty far behind on repairs this years. Very expensive for repairs on other Canon equipment. This has not been repaired.

Strength:

Sharpness and warmth of final image without doubt one of the best zoom in the business

Weakness:

Weight from the point of view of a woman journalist but it is the shot that counts

I cannot believe the price some readers have purchased their lens until I travelled to USA for an assingment recently. I almost overpay by 100 percent. Quality of this lens is beyond reproach and my editor can vouch for that since he offered to pay for my lens and increase my appointments since..... hopefully I can call myself a professional soon.

Strength:

Sharp! Very Sharp!
And very fast focus!
Apart from its performance, it has a very good and professional outlook!
You will find that people all around you would be attracted by your lens
if you take the photo with this lens!

Weakness:

It's extremely heavy!

If you are making a choice to buy 70-200mm F2.8 lens for your Canon camera, you need not think about to choose the lens from other manufactories. Though the lens from those maunfactories sold at lower price, the money you save from it will not compensate what you lose from giving up the Canon one!

Customer Service

My Canon lens work very well and I have never need to send them for repair

Strength:

Solid lens. Fast, sharp, quick focusing, balances great on bigger Canon EOS bodies. Can't wait to try Canon 28-70 2.8L, if it's anything like this one.
1.4x and 2x extender compatibility with autofocus makes it even better buy.

Weakness:

Weight? Nah...

I like shooting portraits, sports events, anything with people. Using this lens requires planning; it's not the most often used focal lengths for me (I like 20, 28, 50, 85 and 135, if I could only use primes). But results are well worth the exercise.
Who should buy it: any Canon EOS-type camera user that wants sharp pics taken with a zoom 70-300 (using the extender).
Who shouldn't: if you have to sell your liver to buy it, you probably shouldn't.

Customer Service

Never had to use, knock on wood.
