Strength:

Its painful handing over $1100 for a lense, but once you get back your slides you foget all about it. I had been shooting surf pictures with Canon's old 55-200mm lense and submitting them to magazines without any luck. With my first roll of film on this lense I sold 3 shots! Anybody with eyes can see the superior qualtity of this lense. There is not a better lense on the market in this focal range. The 2.8 aperture makes the lense extremely useful for anything from sports to portraits. Autofoucs is lightning fast and the manual focus ring is smooth and you can use it while you are in autofocus mode.

Weakness:

Some people complain about the weight, but I shoot this lense from a 12 foot zodiak boat in the middle of the ocean for hours at a time with no monopod or tripod and have no problems. Granted it is heavier than your normal zoom lense, but this is not your normal zoom lense.

While this lense is probably a little much both in terms of price and weight for casual shooting, this lense is a must if you are trying to sell photos or are picky about image quality. The color rendition, contrast, and sharpness of this lense is unbeatable by any other 35mm zoom lense on the market. Period.

Strength:

both the optics and build quality is of very high quality

Weakness:

weight and size, zooming action somewhat rougher than Nikkor, attracts too much attention(big)

I complaint to my self all the time for the weight of the lens until I get my pictures back. This lens surprises me again and again with its quality. IMHO, superior to Nikkor counterpart in optics. Manual override is smooth too.

Super lens! fast and sharp. Optics and color rendition are excellent.

Weakness:

Heavy...but after you get used to the weight it is worth the "pain" I use it on a Rebel 2000 and it is al front-heavy device.

Fine lens. You get what you pay for and in this case the lens really performs.

Strength:

Super sharp, fast. Every photo taken (when my EOS Elan IIE decides to expose correctly) has been perfect. Anybody complaining about the weight needs to exercise and to learn how to hold a lens like this. I miss the weight when shooting with my other lenses. The weight can be your friend. Color and contrast are spot on. Quiet, fast focus. I really like the feel of the zoom mechanism and it will never wear out. Built like a tank. Sharp, but I already said that.

Weakness:

Weight: just kidding. I did have some problems with moisture in Fiji where the humidity is 90% every day. Wasn't too impressed with 2X converter and the lens.

This is an awesome lens (or was until it was stolen in Oahu, Pali Lookout) that shines in every application. You cannot go wrong buying this lens. I miss my lens and as soon as I get the insurance money I will be buying another one. Anyone who is looking for the fastest and sharpest medium range zoom should get this lens. Unless it's the lens that was stolen from me. Yea, people notice this lens but for me it has always been a positive.

Strength:

This lens is a professional grade optical tool that is razor sharp at all apertures, quiet and fast, solid and well built. It is also quite sharp with the EF 1.4

Weakness:

None! Many people complain about how heavy it is, but this has more to do with how good of physical shape a photographer is in.
High-end, professional photography equipment, especially fast lenses, typically weigh in heavier than standard, slower glass. Sweet, fast, sharp optics are always worth the weight.

After shooting fixed mm lenses for most of my career, I was a little skeptical that this, or any zoom lens, would perform. This lens does! I am very picky about image quality, and I love tack sharp transparencies. This lens delivers them with great color. The professional Canon EOS system of lenses and bodies Rocks! The pro camera bodies are user friendly, and the "L" series lenses are so well made that I can see shooting with no other system. Look on TV at the pro photographers at sporting events across the country and you will see that 90% of them are shooting Canon EOS, USM Systems. What does that tell ya? That's right. The auto focus design is superior. I would recommend this lens to any professional, as well as ametures, who are looking to improve image quality and versatility in this zoom and F-stop range. However, one should be forewarned that this lens also attracts much attention in the field. For people photography in a cozy environment, it tends to be a little intimidating for subjects at first. With this aside, the EF 70-200mm 2.8L USM is a very impressive piece of glass.

Strength:

Super fast with EOS3.
Beautiful colors and sharpness.
Manual-focus override.
tripod mount.

Weakness:

heavy.

The hardest thing is too get the money to buy this lens. But once you shoot with it, you'll forget all the pain and money you spent on this lens. This lens is a MUST for modeling, portraits, and close sports and action. There is a HUGE difference between this lens and my old 75-300 USM.
The only bad side about it, is the weight. If you are used to hand holding your camera, then it's time to change. You need atleast a Monopod to carry this babe. But what do you expect; it's an L-series.
But over all, it deserves every single penny i spent on it.

Fairly light and compact considering the speed (aperture) and quality of the lens. VERY SHARP, extremely quick focus, SILENT!!! Extremely well constructed, very rugged.

Weakness:

huh?

Very pricey, but well worth every dollar if you demand sharp pictures and fast performance. A must have lens for serious photography.

Strength:

Very very fast. great glass.

Weakness:

pricey. I think it has a hard time focusing when doing macro photography. Of course it could be just user error. It is a little consipicuous. I wish they could have made it black.

This is a fantastic lense. I heartily recommend it. I will never have another 70-200. However, don't listen to anyone who says that the 70-200 is all you will ever need. I found it inadequate when shooting receptions. Supplement with 28-70 2.8.
