not a 85 mm? For some time i used both Canon and Contax systems at the same time, but a month ago i got rid of all the too "computerized" Canon stuff (EOS 3 and the rest). Wait... Not all the stuff. I just could´t part from the 2/100. It´s so great, i´m gonna buy a cheap body (i guess an EOS 300) just for this lens. You get tack sharp shots of fast moving subjects with a real blurry background. I love this! How somebody can think, Canon consumer zooms were sharp, escapes my mind. Know what you are going to shoot beforehand and use a single focal (well, t h i s single focal), is my opinion. Strength:
Fast focus. Really fast. Silent focus. This thing lets in a lot of light. Beautiful lens. High quality.
Weakness:
Slightly heavy - but all that glass makes it so. This is the first serious lens I have ever bought. It is a beautiful piece of glass. I can't get over how large the glass lens is and how much light this lets in. I've mostly used zoom lens in the past, and have had to compromise with significantly smaller f-stops. I think that has been a mistake. This thing let's me shoot in situations much darker than my other lens could have even dreamed of. I can't get over how much better the quality is than myold aftermarket lens. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Brightness, speed, resolution power, ease of handling, low body mass
Weakness:
None if you buy second hand. I picked it up from a camera shop in the north of england for $300. the guy must have thorught it was a FD or asleep..ble... Best investment. Shot a few test roll with EOS 3 and EOS 300(my spare) and results are the same.So satifying when a lens has a quality of its own. Shots are definitely saleable. Some folks ignore his lens since it does not have a L classifcation. Perhaps that's why the second hand value is so low.Suits me justfine. I think this is the best kept secret of the canon system. Ge it and you will not regret it. under a loupe shots have better resolution power than the classical 70-200mm 2.8. Strength:
Noticeably superior contrast, blur and sharpness - even a raw beginner can see it.
Weakness:
Annoying hood connection; no image related weaknesses. Bought the 28-80 with my new Elan 7 because as beginner photographers both my wife and I wanted a zoom for flexibility. I got the 100 f/2 on impulse after reading these reviews, it seemed like a great price for such a well reviewed lens. Within 20 rolls of buying the camera the zoom is collecting dust - neither of us wants to use it. The 100 f/2 is so fast and sharp, all I needed to get started was f2, >1/125, crop in close and fire away. Black and white is especially rewarding. I'm so happy to learn about photography with this lens. Customer Service Never used. Similar Products Used: Canon 28-80 - yuck. |

Strength:
Fast aperture, light weight, optical quality
Weakness:
Build quality Sharp, sharp, sharp lens. This is the only lens you will ever need for portraiture. The build quality is a little weak compared to the L series lenses but the quality of the optics is as good. The price is exceptional for a lens of this quality. Go and buy one now!! what? This lens is unforgivingly sharp (which is a plus), and if your model has bad skin or even the smallest facial imperfections......tough luck! it WILL show on the pictures. Go get some portrait filters to match this lens you will be delighted with the interesting results! Customer Service none needed Similar Products Used: none |

focussing distance ? I always knew when i started photography that i would get a fast/cheap lens someday. I have to say that the previous reviews helped me a lot to choose my portrait lens. Before, i was using my zoom lens at the 85mm setting but the results were simply bit crisp enough and i wanted some real blurry background. And at full aperture the zoom was showing some king of vignetting so...i'm simply delighted with that lens. Autofocus really fast with EOS 30. Nice blurred background, colors are superb. using the the lens at f/ 5.6 gives such a crisp result! Maybe, the focussing distance is a bit too much but well...it's not a macro lens. I bought the this lens 7 months ago and i waited a while to give my opinion but but there's not doubt, if i break it, i buy another one! Enjoy portraiture? go for it! Customer Service not needed.
