Strength:
natural color, contrast, very fine grain (good for sharpening scans)
Weakness:
sodium lights are rendered yellow-green instead of yellow-orange! Bit blue under clouds but that is natural... use warming filter. Excellent film with natural color and contrast rendition. I have shots going towards blue in cloudy circumstances, so you might want to use a warming filter in those cases. Something that I haven't read here before is that when I shoot at night, the yellow-ORANGE sodium lights are rendered very yellow-GREENish with Provia 100F! See http://www.lightningwizard.com/MiscWeather/gm16dec01.html. Sensia (and Velvia?) does a better job in that respect. Apart from these minor things, its grain is unsurpassed. This is of great help if you are going to sharpen your scans: you can set the threshold very low, sometimes even at zero, allowing to sharpen every detail. This clearly differs from Sensia scans. I also pushed this film to ISO 400 once, and it remains an excellent film with still fine grain, more like Sensia. However, push processing is about twice as expensive. Strength:
fine grain nice color (saturated but natural) can be pushed for 1 or 2 stops with good results
Weakness:
none This is the best color slide film. Period. Bar none. I used to use Velvia a lot, but since I started using Provia 100 F, I hardly ever use Velvia anymore. Sure, Velvia has more saturated and vivid colors, but Provia 100 F has very saturated and vivid colors too, just not as saturated or vivid as Velvia. On the other hand, Provia 100 F''s colors are more natural and even more pleasing (depending on your taste). It even has pretty good skin tone renditions. It is 2.5 as fast as Velvia (I rate Velvia at ISO 40). This means if you really, really want more saturated colors, you can use a polarizer (with which you lose 1-2 stops) and pretty much break even with Velvia as far as film speed goes. And it is even finer grained than Velvia! I pushed it two stops (rated it at ISO320 and push processed 2 stops) with superb results. What more can you ask for in a film? I once did a side by side test using Provia 100 F and Kodakrome 100 VS. Once I looked at the chromes under a loupe, the differences are so obvious that they shout out at you: Provia undoubtedly has much finer grains. In comparison, the Kodakrome looks like a 400 speed film. It is also obvious that the Kodakrome has more saturated colors, but, Provia''s colors are more pleasing to the eye (to my eyes at least). Together with the much finer grain, it simply yields a much soothing results. Since then I never looked back and almost use Provia 100 F exclusively (I still use Velvia occasionally and use Sensia II 400 when I need a fast film) Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Fuji Velvia Kodak 100 VS |

Strength:
- Very fine grain - Not too much saturated - Shadow details
Weakness:
- Price - A little bit too much CYAN - High lights sometimes washed out My expectations was very high. According a lot of peoples, this is suppose to be a very fine grain film. So, I stay with my WYSIWYG slide film: E100SW, from here to now, nothing reach that one. |

Fine grain for good enlargements
Weakness:
Not a very saturated film After reading the reviews of this film I tried several rolls of it. I think I''''m one of the few that have been disappointed with this film. It''''s definately not Velvia with an extra stop. The colors are for the most part subdued, and it really just seems like another slide film aside from the tight grain. For landscapes I''''ll stick with Velvia. I may try Provia F for nightshots and people shots and see if the results improve. Again, just not as saturated as I like. I think I understand why most pro''''s seem to use Velvia. There''''s nothing else like it for landscapes. Customer Service Haven''''t used them Similar Products Used: Sensia and Kodak Extra Color |

None I''ve just read the posted reviews, and I beg to differ. I find that the film blows out highlights very easily. Admittedly, I''m breaking in a new camera system too (Nikon 100, six primes), but after 25 rolls, I''m disappointed. Also, I find that skys are weak. Anybody else agree? Similar Products Used: None |

The sharpness and incredibly fine grain are a dream come true for 35mm photographers. In the past I've stuck with all the slower films, but who wouldn't take the extra stop or two of speed without sacrificing image sharpness??? I've also found that this film has lower contrast than Velvia, which is a great help in contrasty situations.
Weakness:
Not quite as colorful as Velvia and other punched up Ektachromes. I'm not 100% satisfied with its rendition of blue. It does a great job with polarized skies, but blue flowers come out a little bit purple. Also, human subjects tend to "cherry lipstick" lips if photographed in full shade. My main film. If the light is even enough, I prefer Velvia, but the extra speed and lower contrast make this film very usefull under a wide variety of shooting conditions. The image quality is absolutely amazing. It really is noticably better than the other 100 speed chromes, or KR 64. For nature work it is a real boon when the light is dim and/or the wind picks up.
