Strength:
Size, sturdy case, quality photos.
Weakness:
Zoom adjustment in tricky place for people who like to use their left eye in the viewfinder. Somewhat slow and sensitive zoom adjustment. I was very reluctant to try this camera based on all the negative comments on this site, however, I loved the quality of my Nikon Nuvus 125 photos, and love my Nikon N50, so I decided to stick with Nikon. I just got back my first two roles of film and I am extremely happy with the quality of the photos, only two came back with the so called "grainy" photos so often complained about, but these two shots were taken by my 4 year old, so I'll let you be the judge on that one. Customer Service Outstanding. Similar Products Used: Nikon Nuvis 125 |

Strength:
Portability
Weakness:
Slow startup due to opening shell An outstanding piece of gear for its intended purpose. It is not a 35mm SLR, so why do people compare it to one. It is a great, portable camera that you will actually have with you when needed. Much better photo quality and durability than the Canon ELPH (which I also own and which stopped opening the lens). Strength:
Picture Quality(for APS), Rugged, Size, good protective design, Passive AF, Zoom Range, Feaures
Weakness:
Heavy, weak flash, No exposure compensation, no spot metering. I have Canon EOS 1Vs etc. for grown up photographs, but my Fuji 300 APS got more use for holidays, events etc. before I broke it. I wanted a replacement that was more resilient, smaller with a wider zoom. I settled on a Canon Ixus 70 and was pleased, it took better pictures than the Fuji. Unfortunately it was stolen and is no longer made. I was attracted by the spec of the Nuvis S and magazine reports but put off by the reports here. The camera shop and I go way back and so we struck a deal, I got to shoot 3 films for free ISO 100, 200 and 400. I put it through its paces, it is obviously not a 35mm SLR but a cracking camera producing pictures as good as the Canon but is better designed. It's flash is not as powerful as some of the bigger compacts but is OK for fill in. If you are looking for a rugged pocket camera for snapshots the Nikon really delivers the goods, if you want to produce large prints or slides then 35mm is still the format to go for (I can recommend the Ricoh GR1S) Customer Service Not tested Similar Products Used: Fuji Fotonex 300 |

Not much. I liked the small size of the APS cameras; however, reading all the APS reviews I was uneasy about purchasing one. Couple of months a ago I bought a disposable Kodak APS camera and liked the pocketability and the photo quality was not as bad at all. Customer Service Have not used customer service. AFTER DOING THE RESEARCH OF THIS CAMERA, I RECEIVED THE RESULTS THAT I EXPECTED: A SMALLER FORMAT TO BE ALL CONSIDERED CHIEFLY; BUT IN REAL LIFE, FOR TEN DAYS OR SO AS A SCOUTER AT PHILMONT SCOUT RANCH LUGGING ANSEL ADAMS 8X10 VIEW CAMERA AROUND---YOU GET TO UNDERSTAND THAT QUALITY IS STILL IN THE EYE AND COMPOSITION-NO PROBLEM WITH THAT CONCEPT...HOW MANY RESPONDIES HAVE EVEN PLAYED WITH A PINHOLE---RESEARCH YOUR ENDEAVORS BEFORE YOU COMPLAIN- IT BE YOUR FAULT IF NOT MON! THIS CAMERA HAS DONE EVERYTHING I REQUESTED WITHIN EXPECTED LIMITATIONS---KEEP ONE THING SPECIFICALY IN MIND ...THERE ISN'T A SINGLE VEHICLE THAT IS GOING TO DELIVER EVERTHING YOU WANT. DO YOUR RESEARCH!! Customer Service HAVEN'T ANY COMPLAINTS IN DEALING W/ NIKON Similar Products Used: 2- NIKON F-2 |

Weak Flash Alot of the reviews on here really give this camera a bad rating. I can hardly agree. This is not a pro-level camera so lets stop treating it like one. To compare apples to apples I did a little test shoot of with the Nuvis S and my Olympus XA2. For those not familar with the XA2 it is a small sized (about the same as the Nuvis) Auto exposure camera with 3 focus zones on a fixed focal length lens. I shot a roll of Kodak 200 in each camera of the same subjects. Here are the results: The XA had a slight edge in image sharpness. I would expect this since the fixed lens is a simpler design than the zoom of the Nuvis. As for exposure, color saturation, and contrast the Nuvis was much better. The qualtiy of the exposures were much more consistant. Grain was a touch rough with the Kodak Advantix film, I'm trying Fuji Nexia 200 in my next test. I've heard that it is much better. I was happy with the results from the Nuvis and they were in line with expectations and I will be keeping the camera. Customer Service Never used it. Similar Products Used: First APS Camera |

Nuvis S APS Camera
Strength:
Drop in loading was a snap. It had very good, solid construction and the cover was very nice. The Mid roll change feature was also nice to have.
Weakness:
When you take a picture, the camera hesitates a few minutes after pressing the button. Picture quality was no where close to 35mm. Don't be fooled by the differnt picture sizes and other gimmicks. Not only does the camera cost more, but the film and processing costs more too. Save you money and by a 35mm. I got my Olympus for $149. Nuvis S APS Camera
Strength:
Nikon quality is evident in construction and operation. I have used this camera to do two photo shoots for articles I have sold to a major sailing mag. and found it to produce picture quality of a suitable nature for publication. Not 35mm quality but close.
Weakness:
None, I would however like to see longer battery life. This camera had the macro ability needed for interior shots at close range coupled with sufficient distance capability for outside actions shots all in a package I could have on me at all times.
