Strength:

compact and stylish.

Weakness:

Everything else: lens performance sucks, viewfinder too small, clunky button placements, near-to-impossible zoom operation, and much more. too expensive for a camera of mediocre quality.

I sometimes can't believe that this is a Nikon product...yes, it's THAT bad...even with slow-speed films (ISO 100 or 200) on good lighting condition, pictures are awfully grainy.

Strength:

Well it looks nice I guess
Reasonably solid case
3x zoom (all others like Canons seem to have 2x)

Weakness:

Very dissapointing picture quality - even for an APS.
Zoom button very fiddly and sluggish - ofter fails to work on first push.

Ouch !! Like a lot of people I got stung on this one by the stainless steel case and Nikon name - plus the high price. I also read a few magazine reviews which said pictures were good. They were so so wrong.

Buy this only if you are looking for something that looks nice hanging round your neck or next to your coffee cup.....
The picture quality is frankly shocking, particularly in low light - grainny, bad colours, fuzzy. I've had better from a disposable. I know APS is a step down from 35mm but they shoudln't be this bad. I tried several film/developer combinations but all were poor.
Wish I had taken it back but I left the country (Canada) I bought it in before I realised my mistake.

BTW to anyone stuck with it like me I find low speed (100/200ASA) Fuji film seems to give best results with this - still bad but better than Kodak.

Customer Service

Came with a 3 year warranty but that was in Canada where I no longer live. I'm sure if I had been able to take it back to Simon's (the shop) they would have exchanged it - staff seemed helpful there.

Several people I know have one of the Canon Elph/Ixus models and the pictures seemed much better. Wish I had gone for one of these.

Strength:

Compact, fits in your pocket.

Weakness:

Flash didn't go off when it should have. Door to the battery case kept coming off.

Bought this camera before going backpacking through Europe. Used 7 rolls of film on with it. Once the film was developled, noticed that most of the pictures were all a bit snowy. All scenes from outside or in castles did not come out. The only ones that came out great were the ones of the ocean. All the panaramic sizes were bad. Returned the camera after seeing the pics.

Strength:

Very durable because of SS case/Many features for size and money

Somewhat fooled by high-contrast lighting. When battery gets low focusing suffers

Very nice, small, somewhat lightweight camera. very durable and abuse-proof because of SS jacket.

Strength:

Looks pretty cool, durable, takes nice B/W pics and feels good when you hold it on your forehead when you have a headache.

Weakness:

Grainy pictures at times, its hit or miss. Doesn't always "fire" when you hit the button—I hate that!

I feel in love with this camera on paper. I thought I'd be the hit of the party with my snappy little camera but found it to be a frustrating, below average camera. Its easy and convenient but not the best for crisp, nice pictures. However, I have taken a few rolls of B/W film outside that came out rich and clear.

Strength:

Small size

Weakness:

Battery always running out. Heavy for size. poor flash. long wait between flash photos.

Wanted a nice small camera for my wife and I to take pictures of the kids. This one was horrible. We lost the camera in the fall and will replace with something else and not a Nikon product for sure. Customer service is EVERYTHING the camera shop and Nikon both lost my business.

Customer Service

Bought case and battery with purchase after first roll of film battery was dead. Had to threaten to return for battery to be replaced. new one lasted for 5 rolls. Questioned Nikon if this was a problem their customer service rep was upset that Iwould even think their product had problems.

Strength:

Looks cool and on the surface has good features such as zoom and panoramic lens.

Weakness:

EXTREMELY POOR QUALITY PICTURES

I purchased this camera on a trip to CA. I didn't research it as I should have, but instead relied on the Nikon name when considering cameras. What a mistake. In all seriousness I get better quality pictures with disposible cameras than I do with this one. The pictures are grainy even with 400ISO film. Don't be fooled by the name or the features. Sadly it does not live up to the Nikon name.

Strength:

Sliding case.

Weakness:

-Lousy warranty (said not covered; no wonder it's 3 years.)
-Picture quality
-Battery life
-Delicate

Terrible camera. I have owned Nikons for over 30 years (still use my F2 frequently), but after this lousy product and even worst service I doubt I'll buy another.

Customer Service

Terrible - wouldn't repair even though its only ~6 mo old.

Strength:

- Compact design
- Titanium case
- 3X zoom

Weakness:

- Zoom is tricky and slow
- buttons are little small (well, this is a compact camera anyways)
- sliding opening/closing mechanism is fragile

Hi everybody,
I read all the reviews on this page after I bought this camera. Honestly, I was so depressed to see all these complaints about Nuvis S. However, I just got my pictures (3 rolls, taken at variety of different environments (bright ligth, dark, motion, etc.)), and I should say they turned out GREAT! I consider myself a "camera collector", and I have been taking pictures for professional purposes for 5 years now. I dont know what kind of problems you guys are having, but this camera is GREAT. If you want, I can e-mail you pictures that I took to prove the quality. I understand that people write reviews mostly to complain about products. In my case, my review is a positive one, and Nuvis S deserves this. Of course, it is not the best camera in the world, but one of the best in its class. I hope everyone gets similar results...
Peace,
Volkan Coskun

Strength:

Overall design (airport security people love to ask me 'just what is that thing?'), Mid Roll Change, 3x zoom (nice, but mostly an extraneous option), accurate focus lock and yet-to-have-failed exposure.

Weakness:

Somewhat slow shutter and overall operation -- not a camera best suited for sports or action photography
Weak flash -- this camera should be reserved for outdoor landscape shots
Battery door is a bit flimsy.

Most of the Nuvis' reviewers seem as though they made some poor calls on this product. I purchased this camera one week before spending a month in Italy, and while there, shot a few dozen rolls. The color saturation on outdoor shots is phenomenal; even in dusk-type lighting, the results were comparable to my Pentax ME. Indoor shots resulted in a somewhat grainy texture when using the flash and ISO 200 film. Once I switched to ISO 100, I was able to shoot inside with no noticable problems whatsoever. The zoom feature is nice and all, but mostly worthless, as the lens is best suited for landscape shots. It's a shame that Nikon sees the need to charge so much for this camera. I'll be in Egypt in a few months, and I can't wait to see this camera's handling of high temps/heavy sun glare. If you have $300 or so to spare, and you want a compact, easy to use, and rugged (I dropped it twice, not one problem seems to have arisen from this) camera with wonderful picture quality, I highly recommend picking one up, along with a few rolls of Kodak ISO 100 film and a few spare batteries (battery life was about 13 rolls in mine).
User tip: Letting the camera set itself into 'auto-off' mode sometimes results in having difficulty taking a shot after the two-minute sleep timer turns it off. It is best to close the camera's case after each shot if you know you won't be using it for more than two minutes.

Customer Service

Superb -- I accidentally broke the sliding case and Nikon not only repaired the problem in one week, but they threw in a new battery and a fresh roll of film.
