Strength:

Extremely well weighted, solid as a rock. The controls are placed perfectly and the FPS is a fast 2-3/sec. TTL and DX coding a plus especially for a manual focus from the 80's.

Weakness:

Only weaknesses i have found so far is the fact that it lacks a DOF preview, and there is no F/stop indicating window in the focusing area, you have to look at the lens to see what you're using.

This is an excellent manual focus camera, it has stood the test of time and manages to take perfect pictures and look good doing it. Weight has a perfect balance, built like a tank, I am extremely happy with it. As a student planning on becoming a PJ, this has got to be the best camera to start and learn on. Recommend to anybody looking for a first time MF and wishing to start off with Nikon behind them.

Customer Service

have no need for it, after over a decade the camera is in near-perfect condition and works perfectly.

Strength:

Strongly built, but still light in weight. Simple, small and very easy to use. Very advanced for 80's camera and very good exposure metering system. Still compatible with most Nikon lenses and flashes, even the newer ones.

Weakness:

No weaknesses, but DOF preview would have been nice.

Simplicity!!! Great camera for beginners, and will last you almost a lifetime. Very cheap to pick up second hand.

Customer Service

Being simple in design, they are very easy to service. Dropped it once 8 feet (REALLY), picked it up and it was still fine

Strength:

Solid, with nice features in a tight package. Motor rewind, Apeture Priority and Program and High Program for faster shots. TTL flash, seems durable and the price was right:) I think My Da used it once when he got it back in 85 or 86 and put it back in the bag. He left the original batteries in the camera and the flash and they leaked. I had to clean the crud out (used q-tip dipped in Bushmills). All functions perfectly now. It came with a 35-70 f3.3-4.5 zoom. I was able to find a very good conditioned 80-200 f4.5 zoom and a macro and 2x extender. For about 240 u.s. dollars I have a nice little system that has been taking good pictures. By all accounts a durable dependable camera.

Weakness:

No DOF.

The camera seems sturdy, accurate has nice features, is inexpensive and abundant right now. Takes most of the Nikkor lenses including the new ones and feels good in the hand. Easy grip, nice weight and solid feel. It seems like its a metal camera, but its supposidly not. The battery compartment is definately a plastic, but its hard to tell with the rest of the camera.

Customer Service

Strength:

Cheap motorized camera that can use the old Nikkor AIS lens and the new Auto Focus type lenses, a great transitional camera for both type of lens useage -- Select shutter or aperture priority or go manual. Changed battery pack from AAA batteries to AA - gave longer use and more reliable

Weakness:

Plastic body - awkward hand grip to hold camera body (Do not ever drop it!)

Excellent camera body if you care for it, had it since early '80s

Customer Service

Never had to use it for repairs

Strength:

A nice beefy camera. I hate these new lightwieght cams, that weigh less than the lense, this body is like dancing with an old girlfriend, I grew up on Nikon F bodies, that were substantial. Standard control positions make it easy for me to switch between the n2000 and my F2S....the analog controls are readable always. Not hampered by strong sunlight.Auto focus is for the blind. Real photographers PICK their point of focus.I have used this body for shooting sports( I worked doing yearbook sports work for a while) and using the n2000 and a 400mm lense on a monopod I found it great. Unlike the other reviewers, I liked the offset tripod mount because it inabled me to hang on to the camera while mounted. I haven't switched the camera off manual, so I can't comment on the auto exposure. I use a hand meter.

Weakness:

No DOF preview....have to "think when I use my nonAI glass.

My daughter is taking photography in highschool....she has a point and shoot, and is doing great! Devs her own B&W and is printing.... If the grades stay up shes getting the n2000. I'll find a dinosaur that I like and let her have a good camera that will last her a lifetime.

Strength:

I'm reviewing the N2020, which is the AF version of the N2000. The N2020, tho it looks like the 2000 isn't really the same camera in operation. The AF takes over the design. Which makes it a very current model, remarkably after almost almost 10 years.

Weakness:

Like the 2000, the 2020 lacks DOF preview. The rubberized cover is easy to reglue with rubber cement. Rewind is manual. But that's what I prefer because I like the certainty of rewinding the film myself.

The 2020 just goes on, making those brilliant images with its native 50mm 1.8 AF Nikkor. I bought an AA battery adaptor and a Nikon centering bracket wich provides the tripod bushing in just the right place. The internal structure of the 2020 -- like the 2000 -- is metal. So the strap eyelets are anchored in that tough metal. I also replaced the viewing screen with a grid type. The 2020 used with common sense will outlive most of the plastic stuff on the market now.

Customer Service

Never needed it.

Strength:

This is a manual focus, autoexposure camera with a built in motor-drive. At the time it was built I believe it was the first Nikon with a buit in motor drive. It was originally pitched as a "sports" camera as autofocus in that era was still iffy on moving shots. The N2020 is *NOT SIMILAR* except for the name, being an autofocus camera. As far as I can tell it is all metal, including the battery tray. Feels very nicely balanced, even with a big telephoto on it. Every Nikon lense made will work on this camera as far as I know. Motor drive is about 3fps. The controls are very similar to the FM/2. There is no LCD, all dails and levers. Traditional feel, autoexpoure, motordive.

Weakness:

No battery, no picture!
This is not an FM/2 or even an F3, it is basically a modern mechanism in a very traditional case. Mine has been into the shop twice in 15 years. Both times were due to corrosion (once due to batteries let go by previous owner).
Keep this in mind while storing for long periods (remove batteries). My batteries do seem to last a long time, unlike some other reviewers.

Great for sports and moving shots due to motor drive. Great, classic Nikon controls. Solid feel. Currently a great value in a manual focus Nikon. (I think the new FM3a when equiped with a motor drive will do everything the N2000 does but will cost about $1200. But will have manual shutter. The F3 w/ a motor drive also will do about the same things, but with more options and a emergency 1/60th of a second manual exposure mode for when the batteries are dead)

Strength:

*Well built.
*2.5 fps motordrive
*TTL flash.
*Classical controls.
*AAA batteries.

Weakness:

*Noise!
*Metering.
*No d.o.f. preview.
*Ergonomics.

My first Nikon SLR.
I was delighted with the "Nikon feel": solid, sturdy machines.
The results produced by this machine has been quite surprising: no problems with negative film, but things are quite worse with slide film: the center-weighted meter system tends to give overexposured slides, my Pentax P-30N, a very cheaper machine, gave me much better exposed slides (and I am talking about very easy light situations, not tricky lights!) May be a problem from my second-hand machine? I really do not know.
Noise:I afraid this a old and common problem with Nikon cameras, the motordrive is too noisy. This can be frustrating in some kind of photography: weddings, candid photos,...
Ergonomics: the grip is too small for my hands, specially with long lenses. Nikon F-601 has a much better designed grip.

Anyway, if you are a Nikon user and need a second camera as support, this can be a nice model (if you can find a camera with no metering problems!)

Strength:

Durable.
Built in power winder - about 3 fps.
Simple to use in manual or use AP program.
All the feature, half the price.

Weakness:

Ummm. Well it doesn't use AF lenses! No problem here!

You can't buy them anymore but I'm as happy as a lark with this system.
Oh, did I say the image quality on various film types almost always beats anything else in the extended family.
