Strength:
Has the "feel" of a quality camera. The right weight, the easy to find controls; without the bells and technical wizardry when simple is all you need.
Weakness:
Never got used to the offset tripod hole, made those mini plastic tripods a non-option. Loud motor drive, everyone around you knows it when you press the shutter. Like a pair of comfy old shoes. The N2000 has been in my collection as long as I can remember. Even though I love my digital and DV stuff, the old Nikon is still used for time when I just want to fiddle with settings and have time to really set up a shot. |

Strength:
Handling Robustness motor drive
Weakness:
a bit loud exposure not perfect (what camera is) This was my first SLR, and I still carry it with me as a backup. The camera has dropped a lot of times, but still survived. AF is no issue for me, I even exchanged my F90x for a medium format MF camera, but KEPT the F301. Exposure can be a bit tricky in difficult situations, the motor drive is perfect (successfully photographed a shuttle launch with it), the handling is very easy. Strength:
-Weight and balance -Build -The "feel" of a proper camera
Weakness:
-Loud frame advance -Grip This camera was put away for a few years as my father lost the time and interest for photography. I found the body, two 50mms and one 35-135mm zoom lens in the original Nikon camera bag with a Metz Mecablitz CT-4 flash. I had previously have shot recreational shots using a compact 35mm Olympus, then an APS Canon Elph. I''ve just started SLR photography and this camera is perfect for the beginner. It offers anywhere from total manual control (focus, aperture, shutter speed) to an almost point and shoot simplicity. It has a tactile feel that''s hard to put into words, but it really says a lot about the quality of build and workmanship. The clicking and whirring that comes from every shot is felt through the hands and goes straight to the heart, making every shot taken a true pleasure. Unfortunately, it also makes it very difficult to take conspicous or nature shots, as that distinctive sound can scare off your subject. The dials and buttons click into place with accuracy and there is nary an LCD display in sight. Great camera that can and will outlive and technological innovation in digital imaging; it will always take great shots. Customer Service None Similar Products Used: First SLR 35mm |

Strength:
The size, position of controls and weight are all excellent. It is a durable, sturdy, completely dependable camera which works well with all sorts of lenses under almost any circumstances. I bought mine in 1986 and have used it every week since without any glitches. I wish they still made it! It has enough features to support anyone who wants control over the images without a lot of stuff to go wrong.
Weakness:
There is no future for the non-autofocus photographer and no support in parts or repairs any more(if you ever need such) A comfortable, efficient, dependable, user-friendly camera well worth having.Buy it for the dependability and price and put your money into the best lenses you can afford. Customer Service Have never needed any in 14 years of steady use! Similar Products Used: Nikon F4, Contaflex, a Pentax, misc others |

-Can only find used now A very good body for a beginner user and can be obtained at a very resonable price used. Many, many rolls of film have been run through with no failures of any sort since it was bought new, with many high quality pics (some of which have been blown up to 18x24 with very good results). -not autofocus I purchased this body used for $80 and it is excellent for it's condition. From the start it surprised me because of it's solid feel and simple controls. I sometimes prefer it's simple manual controls to my F100's dials when taking pictures @ full manual. I could also use my auto-focus lens on this body. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Uses AAA batteries instead of button cells
Weakness:
Not autofocus. The N2000 is a great manual camera that uses virtually any Nikkor lenses except for the pre-AI lenses. It had a lot of great features that were rare in the late 80's. It had TTL flash metering with dedicated flashes, so getting great flash images is much easier and more accurate. It uses standard AAA batteries for about 60 rolls per set, but if you can find one the AA adapter really makes this camera shine and only adds about 1/8'' to the height of the camera. With AA's this camera shoots A LOT of rolls of film! This makes a great and inexpensive backup camera for any Nikon owner. Similar Products Used: F4, F100, F5. |
