Strength:
Powerful likely with F5
Weakness:
reflex Mirror It is a very nice body to handle at hand except one thing: Shake of the reflex-mirror is obviously, even though I use a Gitzo 1227 tripod to handle it. Compared with F90 I used before, I doubt it might cause a serious problem. The shake when the reflex-mirror get up is small than that the reflex-mirror come back. I don''t have any equipment to measure this influence. I hope somebody can tell me how to. Similar Products Used: N2020, F90 |

Strength:
Light to use when coupled with heavy optics ( try using an F5 with an 80 -200 2.8 all day!)
Weakness:
Battery hungry! Initially impressed by its fine spefications, until it developed several problems with loading film, rewinding film mid roll for no apparant reason and overlapping frames on the negs/slides. Customer Service So far not so good from Nikon Australia.Had to send camera back to Jessops in the UK ( expensive!)Will post an update when I get it back! Similar Products Used: F5,801s,FM2. |

This camera has the functions of the F5 but not the weight or price. It is more camera than I will ever need but I plan to grow into it. I shoot in aperture priority most of the time to control the depth of field and exposure, but sometimes use shutter priority and manual. I do not like auto exposure, it just does not fit this camera, if a person purchases this camera, they should be able to make decisions about shutter and aperture selection. Fast auto focus with the Nikon lens.
Weakness:
Some of the function buttons are out of my reach and I have large hands. Other than that....nothing After months of thinking about moving up to a F100, I made the move and do not regret it! Do whatever you must to get this camera! Customer Service not needed Similar Products Used: Pentax K1000, ZX-7. Mamiya 645. Nikon F4, F5. And some Canon products |

Fast, and very good AF. Fits perfect in my hand with the grip. Rugged, I dropped it once when I was rockclimbing about 10 feet abow the ground but it still works perfect, only a small scratch. And I use the Sb 28 and perfects result.
Weakness:
MLU, Nikon !!! Please Nikon when u make another F100 let us have MLU. I wear eyeglasses and thats another reason why I love Nikon and U have all info in there to. If You rate this camera with one star You know nothing about cameras !!! This is the best AF-camera i have ever tried !!!!! It is so fast and easy to use. The layout of the controls you don´t need a manual for, except the special programmed settings. This camera has a lot faster focusing than the Eos 3 even when not using the eyecontrolled af on the Eos 3. From pressing the shutter and to when the picture is taking then the F100 is faster and the Eos 3 hunts more. My friend is using the Eos 3 and we go together a lot taking photos at the same things. And when comparing the pictures the nikon wins when it comes to exposure. He is using the 70-200 L usm and I´m using the AF 80-200 f/2,8D ED(not afs)and we cant really se any difference in lense quality. Once we did a test to another photo friend and he could not tell if the pic was taking by canon or nikon. Strength:
Fast auto focus, ease of use, ergonomics, build quality, bright focusing screen, informative LCD and viewfinder information. One can use older manual focus Nikkor lenses with focus assist and exposure metering.
Weakness:
Lacks mirror lock up and viewfinder shutter. Neither of which matters that much to me. I have been using Nikon SLR''s for about thirty years and this is the finest film camera made by Nikon with the exception of the F5. But the F5 is very expensive and too heavy and bulky for my taste. This camera is built like a tank, it is of professional quality and is fairly easy to use and one can grow with it as you learn more of it''s functions. The exposure meter is close to perfect, you just have to be aware of unusual lighting conditions. The auto focus is very fast and quiet. I would recommend this camera to any serious photographer. I use an N80 as a back up and it is a fine camera for the money. But the F100 is built for professional use and abuse and should last for years. I also would suggest that one should use the Nikon SB-28 flash with this camera. The speedlight is awesome and mates perfectly with the F100. It''s fill flash capability is perfect on automatic and it has many useful functions. Customer Service Excellent, only used Nikon repair service once for a flash that had a mind of it''s own. Strength:
Solidy built. Lots of info in veiwfinder. Lighted focusing points in viewfinder.
Weakness:
* Even a slight amount of backlighting with Matrix metering seems to really throw the meter off, I do a lot of spot metering when outside. * Parts seem to jump ship randomly: The sync port and 10 pin covers seem to come off easily on their own. So did the eyepiece one time, luckily I found it laying in the middle of the street. I also have the same problem with a plastic piece on the SB-28 falling off all the time. This camera feels great in your fist. Ergonomic. I like the detachable verticle grip, only the grip could use a sub command dial. I mainly use Aperture Priority, so I used a custom function to reverse the command dials so I can switch the aperture when using the dial on the MB-15 grip. I like the way the camera is laid out, very simple to use and not a lot of extra gizmos you don''t need. I Wish it had a data back with impintable info in between frames. I also wish it had a short description on the LCD for each custom function. I hate looking for that card and I don''t have them all memorized yet. A CSM for leaving the film leader out would be nice, I do a lot of mid-roll switch-outs. Similar Products Used: None |

Fast & accurate autofocus Logical controls Solid build
Weakness:
Mid-roll rewind leaves no tail This is a well-built camera that is ergonomically pleasing to hold. The auto-focus is fast and accurate. The dynamic auto-focus setting has performed well shooting fast-moving sports such as bicycle racing. The camera is surprisingly easy to learn as you go (I''m not big on instruction manuals). It even works well with manual focus lenses - there is an indicator in the viewfinder that tells when you have achieved proper focus. Correcting a review below: aperture can be set using the aperture ring instead of the command dial if you use the proper custom function. Customer Service After long hold on phone, very helpful. -Solid body -Easy to use
Weakness:
-Not with the camera... but with the nikon lenses system. I think Canon is still be the sole leader in producing fast autofocus lenses in a reasonable price. Great camera! Worth every cent you pay for. The camera is very well designed and built. This camera is very, very, and very solid! It may be too solid for you if you are not a serious photographer who often shoot in some extreme places like an arctic circle or a desert! This camera is very easy to use (even if you''re a beginner). The autofocus is very useful and fast. The matrix light metering system is exceptional. Customer Service Bad in my country. Strength:
Sturdy and rugged body. Minimal delay in firing shutter. Fast AF. Very good handling with the V.Grip for vertical portraits. Exposure meter works with manual AIS lenses. Detachable V. Grip to save weight on travel.
Weakness:
The focus area selection could have been 9 as compared to 5 with 4 more at diagonal position. The focus area selection dial is a bit too far with the Vertical Grip. The vertial dial has no sub-command dial. No multi-function back that can imprint data in-between frames that even F80S provided. Custom function allows aperture ring control or sub-command dial control but not both. Shows "FEE" and locks shutter when aperture ring not locked at minimum aperture. (not in the case of F5) No built-in flash. No switchable grid-lines as in F80. The F100 is very well built. The delay between pressing shutter and it actually releases is minimal when compared to my old F601. In a nutshell, an all purpose responsive camera for serious amateurs and professionals. The controls are not difficult to understand even without manual for a Nikon user but the sub-command dial in front could be better placed (as in Canon). Similar Products Used: Nikon FM2, F601 |

Everything.. I just love this camera ..
Weakness:
Already lost the little cover that protects the 10 pin plug. It is to small. I think this is the best camera I have ever tried.. I started in photography way back with an Argus C-3 and went from camera to camera. I used Canon FD before I went total AF and got the Nikon System. This F100 Beats out the N90 hands down. Please if you have never used a camera do not review it.. Customer Service I have called Nikon once and e-maild them a few times with questions.. fast return..
