Strength:

Virtually everything about this camera! Built to take abuse. It is light but very strong and robust. Placement and operations are superb! Very comfortable to hold. I like the five AF focus indicators (lights up in red when chosen); this is very useful in dim light situation. The focus is FAST too and quiet. Bracketting is also superb; you can select to bracket either on the + or - side alone (a great way to save film when you need to), not available on other SLRs. It can do it in manual mode too (I used it a lot).

Weakness:

No weaknesses, but just a few complaints: 1) If it is a pro camera, it should have 100% viewfinder. 2) Would be nice to have manual rewind feature, or an option to leave the film leader out. (I often change film in mid-roll). 3) Would be nice to have a multi-function control back rather than the simple MF-29 one.

The F100 was my second Nikon AF SLR. I sold my N90s to get it. The F100 is highly capable, durable, dependable and reliable. If you want the features and capabilities of the F5, but cannot afford to spend the BIG bucks, the F100 is the closest. This is a great camera; do not hesitate, go get it. I have used several N90s bodies and they are quite nosey when firing---you can hear and feel the mirror slips when firing. Not the F100; that was the first thing I noticed the major difference between the two cameras---not that it is totally quiet, but the F100 is much more quiet than the N90s. Of course this is just one minor plus; the bottom line the F100 is a real pro, and should perform like one...and it really does!

Strength:

Build quality is top notch and ergonomic design is very good though lagging behind Canon''s latest models.

Weakness:

The only weakness I can see is the price which isn''t all that bad when you compare the competition.

Though I haven''t owned this camera very long, it is proving to be a joy to have. It feels great in your hands and has just about every feature you need.

Customer Service

Haven''t needed it but when I went to their office for information, they were very helpful.

Strength:

Red focus indicator, excellent meter, fast focus, light and elegant body, nice finish

Weakness:

Need light meter for close up work

One of the best items that I had ever bought in my life. Before using F100, I used N70, then when I went to Japan, I visited Yodobashi, the famous camera store. I held both F5 and F100. F5 felt better in my hand, however, the size and the look are too big for me. You can imagine ten or so years later, it will look hideous. The thing that I really like is the red focous indicator. I am very satisfied with the result that I get from using F100.

Customer Service

Last year my SB28 stuck on the body, fortunately, I was in Tokyo. I went to the Nikon Service Center, and they help me in just one hour for only $22. You can imagine if it happened in the States, it w

Weakness:

Too many customizable options No LCD cover Factory manual mention only Speedlite are supported MN battery don''t include charger and charger cost double the battery cost

After reading all the reviews posted by other Professional, I was scare about my purchase. I had a Nikon FM2 for 13 years; it works great and never gives me any trouble, and however with the amusing function and value for the F100, I finally make the switch. With this purchase I''ve also got the MB 15 vertical grip. The moment I pick up the F100, I had already fall in love with it. The hand grip is perfectly design for a firm and comfortable grip. MB 15 is a must for vertical shot. Very Satisfy with these product. You have to have one in your hand to discover the amusement it gives you.

Strength:

Nice to handle, easy and quick to use, perfect functionality, compatible with most of your old Nikon kit

Weakness:

My camera (like some others)seems to have electronic bugs and/or be sensitve with batteries, makes me unsure about long time reliability of the electronics.

I bought this camera in December 1999 to replace my FM2 after 10 years as a main camera. Although quite an investment for someone who is not using this tool for business I don''t regret buying it. It is real fun to use, very nicely built and well laid out, nice materials and perfect functionality, a bit like a BMW motor car. I bought a new camera to have autofocus and matrix metering and got the 28-105 with it (nice lens for a zoom like that at the price). With the FM2/FE I sometimes missed shots. The situation was gone before I had the settings right and the right lens on the body (I''m not a professional). The combination now proves perfect for shooting kids and while travelling as it''s light enough, fast focusing and accurate metering. It takes my loved MF 25-50mm too for example which I prefer for landscapes no problem and works well enough with my old SB16 flash. If I have time for ''serious'' photography I still use the FM2 and prime lenses, although keep missing the FM100 spot meter and it’s high eyepoint finder as I wear glasses. I never use the FE now. In summary I would always buy the F100 again. Up to here it would be the perfect camera for me. There is one downside though and enough people have written about it on the net. My camera too has had funny effects with the focus area selector not working properly and the camera locking up with ''err'' in the display. Nevertheless I always found this would disappear after a change of batteries (before the indicator said they were gone). Only that is why I rate it 4 stars. May be this problem has gone with the newer models?

Strength:

Absolutely None

Weakness:

The latest repair: Replacement of the Shutter Mechanism, Power FPC, Adjustment to A-Mode Operation, film rewind. Camera approximately 15 months old.

Over the last year, this camera has proven itself to be the most worthless piece of equipment I have ever purchased. Numerous visits to Nikon service, and complete disregard for the customer by Nikon service department has made me wish I had purchased another brand. I have over $12K of Nikon equipment, and until this camera was purchased I would never have been able to state if Nikon’s service was good or bad; I never used it before. Even this defective camera would not upset me as much as it does, if Nikon customer relations would ever return my emails with something more than a computer generated answer. It’s a lemon, and lemons happen, but the customer relations has confirmed that I will never purchase another Nikon product again.

Customer Service

Ha, there is NONE.

Strength:

Really fits my hands... The way the body, D type lens and SB-28 work together...able to use most of the Nikkor lenses already invested in...seems solid and functional, kind of like an F3, but not as heavy...

Weakness:

These auto-focus lenses don''t seem as sturdy as the manual types. Time will tell though.

I''ve only run about 30 rolls of film thru this body in the short time I''ve owned it but have experienced no problems whatsoever. This F-100 body and SB-28 flash did an amazing job for us at an outdoor function a few weeks ago. The F3/MD4 is now used as backup.

Customer Service

Have used Nikon for cla in the past and have been fairly satisfied.

Weakness:

I returned the F 100 because the segmented film rail was scratching the paint off the pressure plate. It scratched twenty rolls of film. The metal on the outer edge of rails also rubbed off and eventually got into the film cassettes light trap. Of course I didn''t notice it until I processed the film and investigated the film chamber with a loupe. This was the first F-100. I returned it to the camera store where I bought it and after contacting Nikon, it was replaced with another F-100. Well, it happened again. Nikon regional was contacted and they had no idea what was happening. The third F-100 was from a serial number far away from the other two. Guess what? Happened again! Nikon was contacted again. They admitted there was a problem. I said screw it, I can''t have this, so I bought an F5 - since I had AFS lenses. I also shoot with M4P and M6. I''ve had Nikon for 30 years. I won''t go to Canon. I have an N80 as a backup and knock around body. It also has the segmented rails, as all the new Nikons except the F5. So beware! Check your rails and pressure plate with a loupe.

I had three F 100''s and returned them all. Ended up getting a new F5 because I have a large lens investment.I wish I could have kept the F 100. I actually liked it more than the F5...but...

Customer Service

I was able to return the cameras to my camera store. If it would have been a box house I would still be using an F100 with scotch tape on the guide rails and pressure plate. Use your local dealer an

Strength:

I am so heavily invested in lenses that I have to stick with nikon regardless of their lack of strengths.

Weakness:

TTL metering failed on me twice. It sometimes underexposes by two or more stops. Camera was sent back to nikon for repair. when it came back, the focusing bracket thumb pad didn''t work. the second time I got the camera back from nikon, everything worked fine. Recently, however, the ttl metering is underexposing again... I have to send it back to nikon again.

Handling and feel of this camera is very good. I use the focusing brackets frequently.

Customer Service

Sucks. It takes days to get anybody on the phone, when you do they are eager to blame the user for their product''s faults. I use the pro repair service, but repairs still take too long. (weeks)
