Weakness:

No Depth of Field preview
Slow Motor

This is my favorite 35, of all I have owned. Truly fun to use, and feels very solid. Often overlooked feature: Uses a standard cable release! Don't need expensive electronic contact cables. However, I really mis the depth of field preview.

Strength:

Great, well-rounded camera.

It's taken its fair share of abuse without hesitation. Rain, snow, and Nigeria didn't slow it down.

I never thought I'd use all the features it has, but it's so easy to learn, I've used them all. Given I've only used about 10 percent of the features of my VCR and cell phone, I think this is a big plus for Nikon.

Weakness:

Noisy yes. AF is also touchy in low-light situations.

LCD display is impossible to see in the dark.

I'm looking at the new N80 ONLY because my wife bought me the SB-28 flash and it doesn't work so well with the 6006. I'll probably keep the 6006 just because it's been so great, I couldn't bear to sell it.

Customer Service

Great. Somehow, our housesitter broke the back on it (she would never fess up how she did it), but I got it back in less than two weeks.

I had many reazons for sticking to 6006: I received a recommendation pro Nikon at this site, another recommendation from a friend of mine, a japanese photographer, who worked many years for "Canon" in Japan - He himself owns and works with 6006 - and myself. I had to take a decision by the time I visited many stores around São Paulo. Although I saw many Nikon cameras, the 6006 called my attention because of its sturdy look when compared to other similar Nikon cameras. As a beginner I'm prone to think that a camera that works automatic and manual is quite helpful in many different situations: for trainning what you think is right, to review your thinking and for not missing a special and singular shot.

Weakness:

I found it a little heavy but that just takes me to feel more responsible(...) for the shots I take. NO, NO PROBLEMS AT ALL!

The 6006 is a quite attractive camera. Although discontinued I got a brand new one! It was quite a choice even among newer models as the N60 or N70 or even the manual FM2 or FM10. The price was fair and it came equipped with a 35/80mm lenses and a tripod. Maybe the sound that it makes then shooting is a little higher than other cameras... but for a beginner that's pure photogrpher joy. The camera is neat, sturdy, controls ok and besides the body is all black. I doesn't have those modes for portrait, landscape, etc. But why in the world do you need that? This is an entry level camera and I do really doubt whether a photographer will ever use those modes: they like to build up their images and in being so those modes are useless!

I have found that the 6006 is an excellent choice for someone beginning in photography. It is easy to use, controls are not awkward, and autofocus is adequate for an entry level camera. I have had great fun with this one. Now it serves as my backup to my F4. Overall a great tough camera.

Weakness:

I had some problems with the autofocus not locking on, but a little practice with the camera and this goes away.

fantastic entry level, autofocus is slow but liveable, I have been very happy with its performance

Strength:

Rugged; been through many rough and tumble trips where maintenance has been minimal and conditions harsh (moist and dusty). Performed as it was designed to. Nikon's universal mounting allows me to add on w/o worrying abt compatibility.

Weakness:

Features / price ratio falls short of Canon's deals back in 1992 whereby the equvalent EOS100 (I think) was jam packed with technology.

AF dependent on vertical lines, need some experience with this camera to focus. Friends who had been unaware of this had been unable to focus to their dismay.

A little costly but probably my last camera needed.

Customer Service

Shirro here in Singapore can vbe expensive compared with some other shops, but their sefvice as far as I'm concerned has been top notch.

Strength:

Good results with matrix metering. Good solid build. User selectable duration of self timer. Self timer can set off two exposures, used this alot for self-family portraits. Built-in flash and hot shoe. A tough camera (Read below).

Weakness:

Autofocus is slow compared to the newer Nikon SLRs. Drive is loud too. The yellow shift button is too small and clumsy to use.

A good camera for intermediates and beginners. I have never been disappointed with the results. This camera is tough. My brother mounted it on a tripod outdoors while he was taking slide pictures of art and then the wind knocked down a picture mount which knocked down the tripod causing the camera to crash to the ground. The camera back was wrecked; the top of the camera housing the built in flash was "bruised". A pin that holds in the built in flash is broken but the second pin still holds it in. The camera shop replaced the back and just did a cursory inpection with no other fixes: the result--pictures are still good, AF works, everything still works!!! This is one tough camera! Because of that experience, I bet the pros can use this thing on a tough assignment as a back up. It's a keeper!!

Customer Service

Went to a camera shop to fix it a year ago. Did not go to Nikon shop. Service was OK.

This camera is easy to handle and provides a lot of features.

Weakness:

No problems in the six years I've used the camera.

This is an excellent entry level camera for anyone wanting to move up from a Point and Shoot or as a backup camera. The AF is a little slow and the camera is noiser than some of the other Nikons.

Customer Service

Never needed it.

Weakness:

Had to have this camera serviced 3 times. The battery would get so hot that I could not hold on to the camera. It was sent back to Nikon all 3 times while under warranty. Finally I told the dealer it was a lemon and the dealer(reluctantly) replaced the camera. The replacement has worked fine.

Good features.

Lots of feature. Spot metering. Nice quality.

Weakness:

None so far. Just a little peel on the back.

I have been using the camera for 8 years. I never have a single problem with the camera except AF is a little slow and loud. Otherwise, it's a great camera for the $$$. I was looking at the N70 and N90 and the build on N6006 is a lot better.

Strength:

Matrix metering, tight spot metering, solid mount, has never let me down. small but helpful built in flash.

Weakness:

A little too noisey can be offensive in some situations. Battery is expensive and it is a hungry bugger.

When I decided to switch from my Olympus system to a more automated camera, I did my homework before deciding on the N6006. One of the biggest reasons for choosing the Nikon was I wear glasses and it allowed me to see into the viewfinder the best. The competing Canon Elan definitely had more bells and whistles but I had a hard time seeing all of the viewfinder. I have shot hunderds of rolls through this camera and it has not let me down. To be critical, it is sometimes too noisey. There was a time I was in Yellostone and I was trying to get a frame full of a moose with a 200mm lens. When I got within distance of her and began shooting, she heard me so I had to back off. The autofocus is sensitive to light and objects that compose of mostly horizontal lines, it can get confused at times so you may have to rotate the camera 90 degrees to get it to focus. I have been satisfied to date with this camera and the Nikon system, I will be upgrading soon to a better camera and it will be another Nikon (one that is quieter). The N6006 will then become a dependable backup. I read on previous reviews of the camera back lock failures, mine has not failed and shows no signs of failing.

Customer Service

Have not needed any to date.
