Strength:

-Durable
-reasonably fast motor drive: 3.5 fps
-f mount for use with nikkor lens system
-matrix, spot, and center weighted metering
-focus tracking

Weakness:

-Doesn't make use of the distance information provided by Nikon AF-D lenses (a minor thing to me).

I bought this camera in 1994. It has served me extremely well and is built to last. The picture quality is great and the ability to use aperture priority, shutter speed priority, manual, or the flex program modes provides unlimited freedom to create the photographs you want.

I've been considering getting a newer camera and using this one as a second body. After doing some research I've decided that the N80 isn't as durable as this one and the F100 doesn't offer the convenience of integrated flash for fill use. Instead of getting something newer I'm going to invest in an FM2N to back up my 6006.

This camera is no longer being produced, but it's still available from some retailers. If you're looking for a very versatile, extremely durable camera with many advanced features the N6006 will do the trick

Customer Service

haven't needed it in 6 years, but the springs on the pop-up flash are starting to fade a little bit.

Strength:

Long Battery Life. Very solid construction. Excellent focus with some exceptions, cable release is great. lots of features.Looks beautiful

Weakness:

Autofocus needs vertical lines, which can be very difficult to find when shooting scenery. Metering with very bright background can cause exposure problems requiring wasteful bracketing...

I love this camera..Picture Quality is beautiful, works well with low-speed film like Fuji Velvia. Nikon lenses are great too. But like others have said, the AF is not my favorite feature when shooting certain scenes. You have to fool the camera to make it focus.

Build-in flash.
Camera also have AE-lock for autofocus mode.

Don't have a option to take second exposition on the same frame.

Nikon 6006 are very good camera, offering most needed functions and giving good results. Recomended from beginners to intermediates. Of course - advanced users wants something more.

Strength:

Have had this 6006 for 6-7 years. Very solid performer. A bit heavy but feels good in my hands. Very rugged as I have dropped it without a single problem. Very good metering systems (3 to choose from). Controls logical and easy to set except "shift" button that I find small for my finger and a bit clumsy to use. Accepts most Nikon lens and you can use the old fashioned cable release. Pop up flash very convenient but so low you usually get red eye. Lots of nice features for the money: Auto bracketing, 4 auto modes + manual, exposure compensation, self exposure with variable time set up to 30 seconds.

Weakness:

AF is slow by todays standards and trying to shoot a flying seagull will drive you and the camera's AF crazy and it is as loud as a thrashing machine. No DOF preview and no provision for multable exposure :-( however it can be done with a little time and creativity.Would be helpful to have auto shut off to save the battery that is quite expensive. You tend to get little warning of battery failure, one minute it works and boom, shutter lockup. Have heard a lot of complaints about latch breakage on the back but mine has been fine.

Overall a great camera for novice to advanced amature. Heck, I know a news photographer who started with a 6006 and still carries his with a 50mm/f1.4 all the time along with his F4. Probably not the best if you shoot a lot of "moving targets". I will keep mine when I upgrade.

Customer Service

Excellent specs for the money. I dropped mine onto a metalled road on a biking trip. I lost the attached Tamron lens but the camera is as good as new.

Weakness:

Noisy drive. Scared animals away on a shooting trip to the local zoo.
No multiple exposure and DOF facility.

I have compared its features with both F60 and F70 and I would not hesitate in recommending the N6006 over the two. Great camera for the price.

Customer Service

Never required. The N6006 has been a very faithful companion.

Strength:

It has about the best bang for the buck:
1) uses standard screw type cable release
2) built in flash compensation for built in and additional flashes (allows you to buy cheaper flash and still have full control)
3) Excellent interface
4) Built in bracketing

Weakness:

For its day its only weakness was:
1) no mirror lock up
2) no depth of field preview

Since it is an older camera the technology has passed it:
1) AF is slow by today's standards
2) Motors are noisy by today's standards
3) Only one AF point

This is an excellent camera. In my opinion it is the best amateur level camera ever built by Nikon. Even after the F50, F60 and F70 came out it was still all around better. Only the new F80 matches it (and the F80 cannot meter manual focus lenses so it still has advantages).

Customer Service

Never required in eight years of ownership.

When I was looking for my first SLR, I decided this camera had the most "bang for the buck". I have never been dissapointed with that decision. Given the very low used prices for the 6006 I would highly recommend it for people looking for an excellent bargain.
