There’s a new player in the mirrorless optics space. Zeiss has a new line of lenses for Sony NEX and Fujifilm X compact system cameras. Named after a type of parrot, the new 1.8/32 and 2.8/12 Touit lenses bring Zeiss optics, manufacturing quality and handling to Sony NEX and Fujfilm X system camera owners. The new Touit lenses are also the first auto focus lenses Zeiss has made for the aftermarket.

Zeiss is renowned for fast prime lenses with super sharp, contrasty optics. They say the new Touit mirrorless system lenses, “deliver all the features Zeiss lenses are famous for – outstanding image quality, robust construction and superb ergonomic feel.” To start, there will two Touit lenses, a 12mm f/2.8 (2.8/12) and a 32mm f/1.8 (1.8/32). With the 1.5x APS-C sensor crop factor, those lenses will have focal lengths comparable to 18mm and 48mm in the 35mm / full-frame format. Zeiss says they also plan to have a 50mm f/2.8 macro prime available later this year – the Touit 2.8/50 Makro. The Zeiss Touit 2.8/12 will be the widest prime lens available for APS-C sensor mirrorless cameras; and the 1.8/32 will be an excellent, fast standard lens for photographers who prefer prime lenses.
