Today at PMA, Sony is exhibiting a concept model of the new compact α (alpha) DSLR camera system, as well as other additions to the α family.
The new concept α products will include an ultra compact model with interchangeable lenses that has an Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and provides full AVCHD video capability. Other additions to the α family include a mid-range concept camera for advanced users – the successor to the α700, a prototype of a Super Telephoto Lens (500mm F4 G), and a prototype of a Distagon T 24mm F2 ZA SSM, new Carl Zeiss wide angle lens.

I’m not really sure what to call the new category with the entry of Sony and Samsung. But the compact system / Micro Four Thirds space is starting to get a lot more interesting with the Samsung NX10 and the just-announced Sony concept camera. Watch for an article from me on compact system cameras in our PMA coverage. At this point, I think these cameras are the most important part of PMA 2010.
