Sigma just announced a sweet new service for Global Vision lens owners. Beginning September 2nd, 2013, owners of Sigma Global Vision Art, Sport and Contemporary lenses will be able to pay to have their lens mounts changed. So you’re no longer locked into a particular camera brand with Sigma lenses. If a new, better camera comes along and you want to change brands, your Sigma lenses can switch with you.
Sigma is on a roll right now. Along with their new Mount Conversion Service, they also announced that they’re extending the warranties on cameras, lenses and flashes purchased after July, 2013, to four years. For those who don’t know, Sigma’s new Global Vision lens program includes three lens lines: Art, Sport and Contemporary; and raises build and quality control standards. If the new Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 Art lens we just reviewed (Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 review) is any indication, Sigma isn’t willing to accept just being a third-party lens maker anymore. They’re aiming to be the best.
The new Mount Conversion Service is only available for Sigma’s new Global Vision lenses. The cost to change a lens mount ranges from US $80 to $250, plus shipping, depending on the focal length of the lens.
