Telephoto zoom lens incorporates Sigma’s original OS (Optical Stabilizer) function
The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the new APO 120-400mm F4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM.
This telephoto zoom lens incorporates Sigma’s original OS (Optical Stabilizer) function. It offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower. Three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements provide excellent correction for chromatic aberration. This lens is equipped with the rear focus system that minimizes fluctuation of aberration caused by focusing. It provides optimum image quality throughout the entire zoom range. The super multi-layer coating reduces flare and ghosting. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. The minimum focusing distance of 150cm (59.1”) throughout the entire zoom range and has a maximum magnification of 1:4.2 make it useful for close-up photography. This lens incorporates HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), which ensures a quiet and high-speed AF as well as full-time manual focusing capability. The addition of the optical 1.4x EX DG APO or 2x EX DG APO Tele Converters produce a 168-560mm F6.3-8 MF ultra-telephoto zoom lens or a 240-800mm F9-11 MF ultra-telephoto zoom lens respectively.

Has anyone actually reviewed this new lens…so much talk about it…hard to believe that no one has actually gotten their hands on one and checked it out…geez…
so truth what larry sad….
no one have any “real” review? and some samples?
afaik there is only one place with a ‘review’ and actual samples including crops.
It’s in Japanese, but the detail is there http://digitalpicture.blog45.fc2.com/blog-entry-32.html
Both it and its bigger brother the 150-500 are reviewed in British Journal of Photography 7th January 2009. The view is that for slow speed sports, these lenses are excellent and the 120-400 particularly sharp. Given its current price in the UK, it looks a much better option in terms of price and quality to the Nikon option.
I just received this lens and posted some info here.

Review of the Sigma 100-400mm lens

I’ve had this lens for almost 6 months, and I couldn’t be happier with it !! Mine does NOT have the front/back focus issues that I’ve read about in other reviews, and I”m just using a K100d Super. GREAT focus speed and clarity between 170-360mm. On the edges of the range, you might have to touch-tweek focus but I find that completely acceptable for the work I’m doing (mostly wildlife and high-school running events).
For the money, this is a GREAT lens. Why can’t Pentax themselves build this ???

Very good and detailed field lens test…
Sigma 120-400mm VS. Canon 100-400mm
Would this lens work with a Canon Rebel XTi
Thanks
It sure would, jekbeck. With the XTi’s 1.6 x digital crop factor, it would be effectively converted to about 200-640mm.
