Another camera design that ignores basic human ergonomics.
Holding a camera like the Sanyo Dual Camera Xacti VPC-CS1 far enough away to view the image on the screen while shooting is awkward and unstable for longer duration and higher zoom level shots, and an unnatural hand position if an optical view framer/finder (remember those?) is available. At a minimum, the lens axis should be canted upward vertically from the grip axis 20 degrees like a real pistol grip.
I wish someone would build one of these using a form-factor like Kyocera used for their Samurai 4000DG. Its one handed operation of all functions was better than that of any other camera I’ve evaluated, and its design didn’t preclude making the case thinner or adding a fold-out screen.
This camera is a marvel of engineering and ergonomics. I don’t understand people who complain about the small size; this is precisely the idea. You have to learn to use the camera right, but after a couple of hours you feel like you have been using it all your life. In my opinion it is by far the best compact camera & camcorder on the market.
