I don’t often promote local dealers or events. However, Pictureline is a great Salt Lake City camera dealer and their Digitalfest event is a good example of something lots of pro dealers do. The Pictureline Digitalfest includes seminars by outdoor adventure photographer Corey Rich (North Face, Apple, National Geographic Adventure, Sports Illustrated, Outside Magazine, etc…) and Alex Buono, Director of Photography for Saturday Night Live; Leica Akademie will be there for a hands-on demo of the Leica M9 digital rangefinder system; and KEH will also be there taking trade-ins on your used camera gear.
I realize that only a few of our readers are in Salt lake City or Utah and will be able to attend this event. However, I encourage all readers to look for similar camera dealer events in your own area. In-store camera dealer events are a great way to get hands-on time with camera gear you’re interested in, talk directly with your local camera manufacturer reps, and maybe even take in a photography lecture or workshop. The KEH trade-in opportunity is a good one, too. Trading your used camera gear for new stuff is a great way to upgrade. You won’t get the same amount of money as you would selling it on your own, but trading your gear with a dealer like KEH is a lot easier than selling on eBay or Craig’s List. I got my first Canon EOS camera back in the nineties by trading in my Canon FD manual focus gear. It was easy and the upgrade was great for my photography.
