First Pentax camera boutique opens in NYC
Hot City, Cool Cameras
Pentax launched its first camera boutique on June 23rd at Willoughby’s camera store in New York City. While the air conditioning and open bar were a great respite from the city’s summer temperatures for hot and tired journalists, we were there to preview Pentax’s shop-within-a-shop and get a first-hand look at the Pentax 645D medium format camera on its U.S. debut. Before you get too excited, there’s no official decision on whether or not the 40 megapixel 645D will go on sale in the States. However, as PDN’s Dan Havlik reported after an interview with John Carlson, senior manager of Sales and Marketing for the Pentax Imaging Company, if the 645D does go on sale in the U.S., it will likely be in the fall.
Positioned at the front of the store, the Pentax Boutique features the full line of Pentax cameras and sports optics, including a rainbow of brightly colored K-x DSLRs and an aquarium-ensconced waterproof W90 that shares its home with several happily-swimming fish. The Pentax Boutique was designed by Alex McCord-perhaps better known to reality TV junkies like me as a member of the Real Housewives of New York City. McCord also supervised the installation of the store’s Leica Boutique, which launched on June 8th.
If you’re in the city, stop by Willoughby’s to check out the boutique: 298 Fifth Avenue (at 31st Street). The store is open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 10:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.
