With an f/2.0 lens and a new 12-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor it’s clear Olympus means business with their current top-of-the-line waterproof Tough camera, the TG-1 iHS. We were impressed with the camera’s features and specs and based on our initial impressions made it the top recommendation in our 2012 Outdoor & Waterproof Camera Guide. Our studio tests confirmed that decision with the TG-1 displaying the best image quality we’ve seen yet in a rugged waterproof point-and-shoot camera. We compared images on the computer and made prints and the TG-1 definitely came out on top. The image quality still isn’t as good as a comparable non-waterproof point-and-shoot, but it’s the best waterproof camera we’ve tested so far. Check out the high-res studio sample photos below to judge for yourself.

They were shot in our studio and the graybar, text and logo were added in Photoshop before they were resaved as maximum quality JPEGs. No noise reduction, sharpening or any other adjustments have been made. Please feel free to download, print or use them to evaluate the image quality in any way you see fit.
