Olympus announced three new waterproof, shockproof “Tough” point-and-shoot cameras at the annual CES tradeshow this week. If you’re a skier, snowboarder, snowmobiler, cyclist or boater in the market for a new high-performance pocket camera you should definitely check out the new Olympus Stylus Tough TG-830 iHS. The Olympus TG-830 iHS costs $100 less than Olympus’s top-of-the-line Tough TG-2 (Olympus Stylus Tough TG-2 Intro) but shares a lot of the same features outdoor enthusiasts will be interested in – it’s waterproof to 33 feet, it can be dropped from about 7 feet, it’s freezeproof and it’s also crushproof. It has a 16-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor, a 5x 28-140mm zoom lens and Olympus’s iHS System to “improve image quality with spectacular low-light performance.” For the athletes (as well as parents and pet owners), the TG-830 iHS has a fast 11.5 frames per second full-resolution high-speed burst mode as well as 120 FPS (720p) and 240 FPS (QVGA) high-speed video modes with built-in slow motion playback. It even has built-in GPS so you can tag your photos with location data.
