Last week, Nikon announced a new wide-angle FX-format (full-frame) prime lens, the AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.8G. The large f/1.8 aperture makes it easier to shoot photos and video in low light and use shallow depth-of-field for selective focus. The built-in Silent Wave Motor (SWM) means no distracting auto focus noise in movie mode. On a DX-format digital SLR (APS-C sensor), the 28mm focal length will be effectively converted to 42mm, making it a nice choice for photographers who want a fast, “normal” prime lens.
The new Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.8G lens should be in stores near the end of next month (May, 2012) at a suggested retail price of $699.95.
