A Nikon D7000 digital SLR showed up for review a couple weeks ago. I immediately made a preview/demo video and now I’m updating this page with a sample video showing off the video performance of the D7000. If you’ve been in a cave for a while, the D7000 is a 16-megapixel DX-format (APS-C) digital SLR with 1080p HD video, continuous auto focus in video mode and a built-in intervalometer for time-lapse videos. I haven’t had a chance to use it much yet but I did hustle up a little box-opening and demo video for you. I was excited when the camera was announced and called it a “category crusher” in my introductory article. I’m not ready to pass judgment yet but my initial impressions are very positive. Make sure to check back for a full review on the D7000. Although there’s a lot of hype these days about video, this is a photography site and I am primarily a still photographer. Nikon is the current DSLR image quality leader and I’m planning to do a lot of still shooting with the D7000, including ski photos at the resorts and in the backcountry. Besides the camera I’ve also got the new Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG OS zoom lens in a Nikon mount to test with it. High-res studio sample photos should be shot and posted soon…

That’s tight. The auto focus is is loud. You’d better bring that to Snowcial!

The auto focus is loud. A better lens than the kit lens might be quieter. And a remote mic would make that a mute point (good one, huh?).
I spent the morning up in the mountains shooting video samples. I should have a pretty comprehensive sample video complete and live before the end of the day, monday.
Seems to me like your focus (see what i did there?) of attention is pretty much on the video capabilities of this camera. If video is so important to you guys, get a dedicated video camera,. I wanted to see what this thing can do in terms of picture taking but I guess that’s off topic.

Why the sarcasm? Just ask if you have questions. I am a still photographer first and I only do video stuff because it is required by my position and, like it or not, because video is one of the main drivers in camera development right now. But since I made this preview I’ve been using the D7000 pretty much purely as a still camera.
