Nikon introduced their second waterproof digital camera, today. The $120 price makes the new 10-megapixel Nikon Coolpix S30 one of the most affordable rugged digital cameras available. It’s waterproof to about 10 feet and can handle drops of about 2.5 feet, making it a great, inexpensive option for people on a budget or families who want a camera that can take some abuse. The lens is a 3x 29.1-87.3mm (equivalent) Nikkor zoom and the S30 can capture 720p HD video as well as 10-megapixel still photos.
Nikon is pitching the S30 as a good camera for people with new babies – being waterproof and shockproof means you can take pictures without worrying about getting smashed carrots all over the camera or the baby knocking it on the floor. It will also make a good, inexpensive summer vacation camera for kids. It’s safe for the pool, the beach, raft trips and all sorts of outdoor activities.
The new Nikon Coolpix S30 waterproof digital camera will come in three colors – white, pink and blue. Sorry, no tough-guy black, fellas. It’s scheduled to be in stores in February (2012) for a suggested retail price of $119.95.
