Kodak will be showing off a new pocket-sized, waterproof HD video camera at the 2010 CES tradeshow. “Designed for consumers with active lifestyles,” the new Kodak Playsport captures 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second and can be used underwater to a depth of 10 feet (3m). For the more serious outdoor enthusiasts, Kodak will also have an optional “Adventure Mount” for helmet-cam action.

I bought this camera to replace a inherently faulty (and eventually refunded) Vivitar rugged underwater camera. I got it a couple of weeks before a holiday, so this was the first testing. Looked stylish and was the size of a large mobile phone. Worked well in the pool/sea. Films and photos were decent quality, though photos tended to warp/elongate slightly on occasions.
I took the camera on a boat trip 2 days into the holiday and jumped into the sea with it. It seems the impact of entering the sea forced water into the battery compartment and from there to the rest of the camera. The screen was on, but just white. I removed the battery and memory card and tried to dry it out, but it hasn’t worked since.
I expected this to be more rugged and water-resistant. I did not go below 3 metre depth into the water (which is the camera’s depth limit). Even if I could get it working again, I’m not sure this camera is particularly useful, as I tend to use underwater cameras mostly for rough sea, waterparks/first person action shots etc…. if it can’t cope with a bit of rough & tumble, I can’t use it for most of these settings.
how long can this video camera/camera record videos?
I put the videos on iPad but am unable.to get sound any idea what to do. I formatted the memory card so they are on our two iPads
Sorry to hear about the audio problem, Cindy. Are these the first videos you shot with the PlaySport or is this a new problem? Maybe you should post a question on our Digital Video Forum.
