Kodak announced the EasyShare Z981 digital camera. The Z981 features 14-megapixles, 26X Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon Optical Zoom Lens (35 mm equivalent: 26–676 mm), a fast (f/2.8–f/5.0) 26 mm wide-angle lens, Kodak’s Share button, a veritcal shutter release, Image stabilization, a < 0.2 second picture-capture speed, Kodak’s Smart Capture feature, HD picture and video capture, Program auto, aperture priority, shutter priority, and manual modes, Multiple scene modes, and Face Recognition.
The Kodak EasyShare Z981 will be available for $329.95.

what are the dim ensions and weight of the Kodak EASYSHARE Z981 camera?
I would love to have it but is it really 2lbs 3oz?
The specs say it weighs 519 grams. I calculate that to be 1.14 pounds.
I ordered one 3 weeks ago. I received notice that it shipped April 1st and will arrive Monday, April 5th. I am so excited.

Don’t wast your hard earned money on this camera. I have the Z981 and was disappointed with all the noise this camera has in its pictures. I Just picked up the canon t2i and what a difference in quality. I know its almost double the price but i now can take great quality pictures of my kids and everything else. My daughter has just had her baptism done and without with the canon DSLR i would not have been able to take the quick shots of her if i was using my Kodak. Its just in a class in itself. But even not spending a grand on a camera go to earlier models which are around the $500 mark with 10mp will blow the Kodak out of the water. Don’t be fooled with the 24 & 26 zoom the quality of picture at that zoom range is crap anyway.
The Fuji HS10 blows the doors off this camera – As for Frank and his DSLR T2i – As with all DSLR’S … having to change lenses is a gamble every time you take a lens off the body – As soon as a spec of dust lands on his sensor …. and sooner or later it will ….ALL of his picture’s will be crap. That is the undeniable advantage of superzoom camera’s over DSLR’s…. and that is… The lens is sealed from all dust as is the sensor.
RIGHT ON! – lookin’ forward to my Z981 on 5/20. Great reviews! Many Thanks to all on helping me come to a conclusion. I have lots of wildlife in the area. I don’t want anything complex and end up missing the opportunity for a great picture.

The addage “if its too good to be true” applies to this camera. Too high were my expectations for this price range.
I live in a high wild life area.. have had great success with my Kodak EasyShare DX6490.. and hoped for more zoom. I’m still learning on the Z981, but have found the extra zoom to be useless.. even with a tripod and 2 second timer its just not possible to get a proper, clear focus. I’m wishing already I had done more homework.. a remote control shutter device would have been preferable at such high magnification. Colors are also a disappointment.. in natural settings.. most of the greens are too yellow and not true color.
The battery charger that comes with the camera does not have an indicator light showing when the batteries are charged, making it a dangerous guessing game. Had to order a separate battery charger with indicator light.
The latch on the battery compartment does not close easily and is clumsy.
I love my kodak ez share. I have created and sold many beautiful composistions with this camera. See some of the photos at crystalsphotoshop.com. The site isnt finished yet, but gives a great example of what can be done with this camera

Kodak EasyShare Z981 includes all the features on affordable cost. I will purchase this camera when it launches in market.
Have had my easy share z981 for about two weeks and have had to delete all but four pictures. Pictures are ziz zag and have vertical lines some so dark you cannot even see parts of the ziz zag picture. Don’t get one of these. Wish I hadn’t wasted my money as I have none to waste!!!!!
I’ve had this Z981 for nearly a year now, I get super pic’s of animals and the outdoors. Zoom is great, cut down your pixels. Here in Montana it has worked perfect in -20 degree storms. I have a early EShare DX7590 (5mp) which seems to be the mother of the Z981. Still carry it as a spare in all kinds of weather, both are super great for a cheap camera with lots of features. Will buy the next generation of the Z981 whenever …Don’t be afraid to buy & use it hard, it’s rugged. Learn to use the features.
