Fujifilm recently added a third camera to their new “X” line of high-end compact cameras, which includes the much-coveted X100 digital rangefinder and the new X10 premium compact. The brand new Fujifilm X-S1 superzoom camera has a 26x 24-624mm f/2.8-5.6 image-stabilized optical zoom lens and uses the same large 2/3-inch 12-megapixel EXR CMOS sensor as the X10. According to the press release it’s built in Japan to the same high standards as the X10 with a grippy rubberized finish and metal control dials. The X-S1 has great auto shooting features for beginners as well as a full range of manual controls for experienced photographers. No camera is complete these days without video and the X-S1 captures 1920 x 1080 full HD video with stereo sound.
Superzoom cameras like the new X-S1 are great for people who want a lot of lens without the trouble and cost of a full digital SLR system. Fujifilm’s superzooms have always been among their most popular cameras on PhotographyREVIEW.com and the FinePix HS20 EXR is in our 2011 Best Digital Camera Holiday Guide. Plus, the 2/3-inch sensor in the X-S1 is larger and should be better than other superzooms and even top-end “pro” compacts like the Canon G12 and Nikon P7100, all of which have smaller sensors.
Both the Fujifilm X100 and the X10 have been very popular. I’ve had the pleasure of a short hands-on look at both cameras and understand their popularity. They’re built really well with a great retro look, great performance and excellent image quality. Both cameras surprised me, actually. I was a skeptic but once I had each camera in my hands their popularity made perfect sense. So if the new Fujifilm X-S1 has the look, feel and performance of the previous X-Series cameras, it should be the new king of the superzooms.

Have had great luck with Fuji cameras for stills over the years and this new model is exciting! Use Sony for video work, seperate gun in the other holster.
Interesting – Fujifilm re-announced the FinePix XS-1 high-end superzoom camera for the CES / PMA tradeshow. They have a new press release for it, too.
