FUJIFILM OFFERS ADVANCED FEATURES ON ENTRY-LEVEL DIGITAL CAMERAS
FinePix AV100 and AX200 Come Alive With 720p HD

Fujifilm FinePix AV100 and FinePix AX200 Digital CamerasValhalla, NY, February 2, 2010 - FUJIFILM North America Corporation today announced the launch of the feature-rich and compact FinePix AV100 and AX200 digital cameras. Not only are these entry-level models perfect for the consumer on a budget, but they also offer ease of use and allow the user to take great images with minimal effort. Features such as HD Movie Capture, Automatic Scene Recognition, Face Detection and high ISO sensitivity levels provide the backdrop for the FinePix AV100 and AX200 to capture stunning memorable moments in either still images or video.

Both the FinePix AV100 and AX200 utilize a 12-MegaPixel CCD sensor and a 2.7″ High Resolution LCD. The FinePix AV100 hosts a Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens and the FinePix AX200 steps up with a Fujinon 5x Wide-Angle optical zoom lens for greater range and flexibility. Combining the high resolution sensors and top quality Fujinon optics with the high sensitivity settings of up to ISO3200, the FinePix AV100 and AX200 will deliver sharp, clear images in all conditions, perfect for enlarging on screen or in print without compromising image quality. These models also come in a choice of black or silver.

“We wanted to build upon our ‘A-Series’ camera line promise and provide consumers with affordable digital camera options with robust feature sets,” said David Troy, marketing manager, Consumer Digital Cameras, Electronic Imaging Division, FUJIFILM North America Corporation. “This year, we are pleased to be able to offer HD Movie Capture to consumers looking to buy an affordable, easy to use camera and they will get both with the new FinePix AV100 and AX200.”

HD Capability
The FinePix AV100 and AX200 cameras also capture High Definition (HD) movies at 720p with sound and still shots in 16:9 that can be played back on any HD ready television (or a home PC). There is also Fujifilm’s optional HD Player Kit, which includes an HD Card Reader that connects to HDTV for true digital transfer of HD quality and a wireless Remote Control for video playback from the comfort of your couch.

Other noteworthy features in the FinePix AV100 and AX200 include:

  • Picture Search: Allows users to find images taken in a particular scene mode thereby ensuring it is much faster to navigate through the photos on your camera.
  • Panoramic Shooting mode: Allows users to stitch three photos together to create a panoramic image, perfect for wide landscapes, tall buildings or large groups of people.
  • Scene Recognition Auto (SR AUTO): Intelligently detects the scene type and shooting conditions to optimize the camera’s focus, exposure and white balance.
  • Face Detection: Ensures the settings are optimized for the people in the picture.
  • Natural Light mode: Made for candid shots taken in a low-setting, this mode automatically increases the ISO to enable the flash to be forced off for discreet, non-intrusive shots.
  • Digital Image Stabilization: Reduces image blur automatically and offers creative adaptability and excellent picture quality.
  • AA-Battery Power: Using AA batteries is often most convenient for on-the-go digital camera users as it eliminates the need to charge battery packs, allowing for lots of picture-taking and the ease of battery replacement.

The FinePix AV100 will be available in February at a price of $99.95 and the FinePix AX200 will be available in February 2010 at a price of $109.95.

I bought Fuji Finepix AV100 this week. I feel its good for the sunlight shooting. In the Tube/flurocent or CFl light (night node) shooting is not as good as the other camera Canon IS A720, I was using for some years.

Good part of this camera is its HD compatibility, sleek and economic price.

  • Dont Buy This Camera A series all HD error says:

    Dear all Fuji Fans,
dont buy this camera all new A series camera like av100/150/200/250
have the complaint in HD movie .. it will become freez in some sec in 720p recording in homely sittuvation please see the below link of youtube video
it happens in types of memory cards class2&4&6 .. 2gb&4&8 gb cards.. its manufacturing fault.. company people admitted the same .. they were developing a new firmware to fix this issue..
IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN WE SHOOT SOME MOVIES IN OUR HOME.
nobody can’t belive it.. but see the below link

if you have a class 2,4,or 6 memory card thats above 8 gb are you okay

  • sakthi says:

I am little bit satisfied with the performance of AV 100……..I need entry level camera by the price of 5k.i am sure i cant get better than this.shall we use normal video mode instead of HD

  • Jon says:

Read quite a few reviews across the net and the common complaint is that the cam freezes within seconds when shooting video in HD. And a few user comments also state this is not solved even after switching to Class 4, 6 mem cards. First of all people opting for affordable cameras mostly do so for financial reasons (like me). I’d rather wait and save up for a better cam than buy a product that has so much complaints.

  • matemate says:

I have ax200 2nd day. The problem with freeze i have too. So I downloaded new firmware 1,0,1 – applied it and now can record f.e. 15mins video without problems. For me good choice for that money.

  • Vishal says:

I had bought the camera yeasterday and shoot some night photography, But some how I am not satisfied with the quality of image, Its not much clear. Before that I was used cybershot mobile but seems it was better then this camera.
Do Not waste your money if you want to use in regular life. Go for alternative nikon, sony etc. in same price.

  • joe bloggs says:

what are you fools using a digital camera to record movies for anyway?

  • Photo-John says:

Get with it, joe bloggs. Not everyone wants to carry a camcorder and the new breed of point-and-shoot cameras that can capture HD video are surprisingly good. They may not be as good as your Sony pro camcorder. But they fit in a pants pocket, which means you’re going to be shooting a lot more video than you would with something bigger.

  • alyx says:

this camera is great, if you have problems with HD filming, please send me an email, ant i send to you firmware 1.02, is not avaible on site.

  • ya please send me the firm ware says:

it would be great if you could send me the firm ware for HD video shoot.

    Thanks in advance

  • johndoe says:

I was wondering if someone could upload AV100 firmware 1.02 to rapidshare and post a link to it? I’m not having any freezing issues, nonetheless I like my stuff updated :)

BTW Av100 with SRauto mode generally works well, the key is you need enough ambient light/use wide instead of zoom/move closer to the subject so it can autofocus and pick a better ISO level. If you want “standard” night shots, then choose “P” program mode. That will give you the classic flash look (at expense of darkening background), while allowing you to limit maximum ISO levels in settings. SRauto mode has no way of setting max ISO.

I love this camera. In fact I bought a second one off eBay. Being able to shoot nice 12megapixels and HD video is great. The picture quality is incredible even at 400 ISO level. At 800 you start to see a lil noise (but only if you magnify up real close) The graduation levels and noise reduction of the camera is awesome, it’s almost like real film.

it only works in AV100, the ver is 1.02
    Thanks
    Benson

  • RD says:

please, forward firware 1.02 to bicepalsson@hotmail.com. Thx

  • john doe says:

    To All,

Fuji tech support does not yet have this file, but it is installed on newer revisions of the AV100.
Here is the latest firmware 1.02 from Asia Fuji support:

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XU1YBKQJ

Follow instructions as per 1.01 on Fuji’s site, but replace with this DAT file instead.

And to prove it’s legit, I scanned it for your convenience:

    http://virusscan.jotti.org/en/scanresult/8810fee7b2249342c0309f327050d8cef8a25f1c

    tips:

For very dark/night shots SRauto will tend to use iso 800/1600.
To avoid grain, set camera to “P” mode and custom set max ISO to 400, this will fix that.

Otherwise SRauto usually works well, but it needs to be able to focus and have enough ambient light to work with.

my son was just given an AV100 for his birthday. when ever he plays back any movies he has shot it makes a loud beeping sound. he loaded the movies into his computer for playback to see if this fixed it but it still does. has anyone encountered? will a firmware update solve it? or should we take it back to the shop because it is faulty.

  • @bullet says:

    @August 25th, 2010

I would update it to the latest 1.02, and then go to menu options and choose the option to “RESET” the unit. Sounds like you have default system beep sound set to max.

  • Vijay Daniel says:

Dear john Doe, can you tell us how to take backup of orginal firmware from fuji AV 100. it 1.0 ver i would like to keep backup before flashing with new one 1.02

  • John Doe says:

“can you tell us how to take backup of orginal firmware from fuji AV 100.”

Unfortunately there is no way to back up the firmware. However I can guarantee it will not mess up anything. I have used this on both my AV100 cameras purchase on eBay with no issue. If your camera is working fine, then no need to update the firmware. This seems to be a compatibility update for certain types/brands of SD flash memory. And also if you have any issues with HD recording and it suddenly freezes.

    tips:

a.) After updating firmware, be sure to reset the default settings under menu
b.) Make sure to set the battery type. If you are using NIMH, set battery type under menu to “NIMH” instead of “ALKALINE”, this will make sure to give a more accurate battery reading.
c.) Use good quality low discharge NIMH batteries like Sanyo Eneloop or similar. Seems like most normal NIMH over 2100MAH tend to discharge quick if left in the camera too long
