I’m not quite sure how it happened, but here we are on the edge of July, right smack in the middle of summer (on the top of the globe, anyway). No doubt, many of you have exciting summer vacations, activities and events planned that could benefit from a new digital camera. This article lists five great summer cameras for families, casual photographers and serious photography enthusiasts.
There are lots of great digital cameras at the moment and I’m not billing this as a “Top 5″ list. Instead, I’ve listed cameras with different feature sets that make them great summer or vacation cameras. I’ve also included an alternative choice with each camera. If you’ve got your own favorite summer camera, tell us about it in the comments section at the bottom of this page.

I have the Playsport.. I purchased it the day it was released so I could take it on vacation when we went to Maui, Hawaii. It certainly isn’t anything like my Canon D-SLR (40D), but for something to take to the beach or out snorkeling, it was perfect!!! The photos are pretty decent, the HD video is great, and it’s really fun to be able to take underwater video clips!! We were able to capture the sounds of the whales singing out in the water while I was snorkeling.. here’s the clip I made…
