The PowerShot SD990 IS and PowerShot SD880 IS Digital ELPH cameras were announced today by Canon as well as a limited-edition red colored PowerShot SD990 IS camera to celebrate the 100 millionth compact digital camera manufactured by Canon. Optical Image Stabilization and Canon’s new DIGIC 4 image processor are some of the advanced features that Canon has added to these cameras.
The PowerShot SD990 IS Digital ELPH camera has 3.7x Optical Zoom, 14.7-megapixel resolution, Optical Image Stabilization, and the new Quick Shot Mode which produces faster shutter speed. This compact, stylish camera is available in black or silver for $399.99.
The PowerShot SD880 IS Digital ELPH camera has 10.0-megapixel resolution, Optical Image Stabilization, 3.0-inch PureColor LCD II screen, and 4x wide-angle Optical Zoom. It is available in two-toned body colors of black and silver or gold and brown for $299.99

This is about the same time as my Canon PowerShot SD950 IS was introduced last year. The SD990 IS looks good. But not good enough to replace my SD950 IS. I wanted wide-angle with an optical videwfinder. I don’t really care about more resolution than the 12-megapixels I already have. I am curious about the Quick Shot Mode and the what DIGI 4 might do for the camera. I would have put cash money down for a 12-megapixel camera with those features, and optical viewfinder, and a wide-angle lens. Oh well…
It’s not enough
Looks to be a great hi-res pocket point and shoot, but I need a viewfinder for bright light.
$100.00 buys that and more with the G10.
