Canon is introducing a new inexpensive A-Series compact digital camera with an optical viewfinder at CES this week. The 16-megapixel Canon PowerShot A1400 is a no-nonsense point-and-shoot camera with a 5x optical zoom lens (28-140mm equivalent), 720p HD video and a very nice price tag of just over $100. Although it might seem like a pretty mundane camera, the A1400’s optical viewfinder sets it apart from the vast majority of point-and-shoots. Over the past 5+ years optical viewfinders have pretty much been eliminated from compact cameras and most of us are used to using LCD displays to compose and take pictures now. However, older folks and people who shoot a lot of moving subjects will really benefit from the optical viewfinder. My mom is always complaining about her camera not having a real viewfinder. Now there’s a camera I can recommend to here – and it’s super affordable, too!
