Adobe Photoshop CS6 Beta Highlights & Videos

Adobe News Software Videos

Adobe Photoshop CS6 Beta Highlights & VideosAdobe is showing off their upcoming Photoshop CS6 graphics and image editing software by offering a free beta version. It’s got a new UI and a whole bunch of cool new features, including Camera RAW 7.0, real video editing, new blur tools, powerful new text tools and an updated crop tool, to name a few. If you’re interested in previewing Photoshop CS6, it’s available as a free download on the Adobe Labs Web site. Of course, since it’s a beta version, it’s not final and you will also be helping Adobe test and polish the final version of Photoshop CS6. And you get a taste of what’s to come, pretty much ensuring that you won’t be able to live without it once Adobe makes the final version available.

I spent the morning digging into the new Adobe Photoshop CS6 features. I really enjoyed the two videos below, by Adobe’s Julieanne Kost and Russel Brown, where they each talk about their six favorite features in Photoshop CS6. There’s a bit of overlap but both videos are worth watching. I’ve also included a video of Bryan O’Neil Hughes, Adobe’s Senior Photoshop Product Manager, talking about the Content Aware Fill tools, including the updated Patch tool and the brand new Content Aware Move tool, which makes it really easy to select and move an object in an image, without any time-consuming cloning. The new tools and features that interest me most are the updated Crop tool, which appears to work just like Lightroom’s Crop tool; the Content Aware capabilities in the Patch tool; the new Adaptive Wide Angle tool, which uses image metadata for incredibly powerful and customizable lens corrections; and the ability to do real video editing right inside Photoshop. The video editing is the biggest surprise to me. That’s not something I had even considered they might add to Photoshop – although it makes sense now that I’ve seen it. I wonder if it’s possible for Photoshop to replace my current video editor, Adobe Premiere Elements?

The Photoshop CS6 beta is available now as a free download. You do have to either have a current Adobe ID or register one to download and install the Photoshop CS6 beta. Adobe hasn’t provided a date for the final CS6 version of Photoshop but they say it will be available sometime in the first half of 2012, probably for US $699.
