Strength:
reasonable price and compact
Weakness:
cannot say it super sharp. just quite good. the sharpness pleased me much but not shocked me yet. it is sharp by most cases. but once i placed the subject 3 meters away at 35mm, i feel the details of the subject began to lose. for general occassion, it is not bad. the AF is fast and i hope it is a metal barrel. Strength:
Top calss optical qyality and good value for mony
Weakness:
Non so fare. Tamrons AF 28-75 2,8 XR Di LD IF offer professional performances to a reasonable price. Tamron shows that is possible to combine light weight, compact size and high optical performance. Tamron AF 28-75 2,8 is very sharp over the hole zoom range better in sharpness than for example Sigma AF 28-70 2,8 EX and Canon AF 28-70 2,8. One of the sharpest midrange zooms I ever used fully compared with primes. Tamron AF 28-75 2,8 has a good close up capacity (33 cm) over the whole zoom range. Vignetteing is visible but not disturbing in 28 mm at 2,8, stopped down to 8 there is no vignetteing visible. For the rest of the zoom range the vignetteing is not disturbing. A little minus for the distortion in 75 mm. The auto focus: Not AFS but quite fast and not so noisy. Buildt quality, composite construcktion but good and stable quality. Strength:
Sharpness Resonable price
Weakness:
Some plastic feel as some users might want to have a metal housing. However, I found it is not bad especailly compared with similar priced Nikkor or Canon lens. Very sharp even at 2.8 even on my film camera Nikon F100. No need to stop down to gain sharpness. Light yet sturdy enough for general use. Price very reasonable especially compared with equivalent Nikkor and Canon. Popular Photography have reviewed this lens with the following conclusion: Conclusion: Very sharp, fast midrange zoom. Nearly a pound lighter than and 1/3 the price of comparable zooms, with 5mm more reach than others in its class. http://www.popphoto.com/assets/download/8212003124116.pdf Another reviewer using a Canon 10D found it is unsharp at 2.8 may be because of the front focus problem of 10D Customer Service Not yet used Similar Products Used: Tokina ATX PRO 280 28-80 f/2.8 Tokina ATX PRO 287SV 28-70 f/2.8 Nikkor AF 28-105 Nikkor AFS 24-85 |

Strength:
- Sharp wide open - Small & light weight - Uses cheap 67mm filters - Fast F2.8, avoids need for flash
Weakness:
- Zoom range: wish it went down to 24mm - Autofocus not as quiet as Canon USM Bought it 2 weeks ago and have been using it heavily since. On my 10D, pictures are sharp wide open - when both are set to F2.8, I can't tell the difference between this and my Canon 50mm 1.8. The only thing that gives it away is that the Canon has poorer bokeh! The zoom ring was a bit stiff right out of the box. But after a week of hard use, it loosened up a bit. There's a lock button for the zoom, but I've not found the zoom extending by itself when I walk around. Other than that, build quality is good and the lense feels solid. The autofocus is quick, but not as quiet as Canon's USM. Customer Service Haven't needed it yet Similar Products Used: Sigma 28-105 |

67mm filter thread Autofocus worked great, best of 3rd party lens I've used Lightweight Good build quality
Weakness:
Soft at f2.8 Corner softness at smaller F I bought this lens because I was not satisfied with my Canon 24-85mm USM anymore. Also I wanted to try Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DF. After a bit less than two weeks I sent this Tamron back to the store because of two reasons: it was too soft at f2.8 and even stopped down it was pretty bad in the corners. I just didn't see how is it better than Canon 24-85mm. In fact the color reproduction was much better with Canon. Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DF is better IMHO: it renders more netural colors, it's alot sharper below 5.6 and it's $40 cheaper. Strength:
- Doesn't cost as much as canon's equivalent...but then again it doesn't deliver as much also..:)..but hey this lens only cost one third of canon's equivalent right?? - 67mm filter diameter - very close focusing for this tipe of lens - lightweight for a constant 2.8
Weakness:
- feels a bit loose (flimsy??) on my eos 30/elan 7e Bought this lens almost 2 months ago, results have been great...Can't complain really.. Customer Service Haven't need it yet.. Similar Products Used: None |

price f2.8 weight lenght
Weakness:
sharpness at 2.8 I have used this lens on my Canon 10D. With the 1.6x crop factor it should be an excellent portrait lens. The f2.8 is very nice for the price and I also liked the built quality (plastic but feels solid). Also it is much lighter and shorter than similar Canons, Nikons,... However I got the lens for the 2.8 and the sharpness of my lens was unusable at f2.8. MUCH worse than my 50mm prime. After a weekend (and around 200 shots) I send it back for refund. Strength:
Pretty sharp at all focal lengths. I do not generally shoot landscapes. F2.8 is sharp! Nice color and contrast. Fairly speedy as long as there is contrast. Nice build quality and it comes with a lens hood. Great price ehn you think about the Canon version costing as much as 3 times the price.
Weakness:
For the price and results, I can say I have found no real weaknesses with this lens. I'm sure others will find fault. Overall, I like this lens a lot. It is sharp with good contrast and color. It works well on my Canon 10D. Sharpness is on par with my 50mm 1.8 Canon. So far, I can find no major faults with this lens. For the price, I think it is a tremendous bargain. I am very happy with this lens. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Canon 28-70L, CAnon 28-135, Canon 75-300IS/USM, Tamron 28-200XR, 28-300XR, Tokina 70-200, Sigma 70-300 |
