Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 LD Aspherical (IF) 35mm Zoom

Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 LD Aspherical (IF) 35mm Zoom

DESCRIPTION

A totally new optical system that incorporates three Hybrid Aspherical elements and two high-grade LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements. Together they provide never-before-possible sharpness, contrast and color depth, while eliminating chromatic aberrations inherent to a high-power zoom lens of this magnitude. These state-of-the-art optics are housed in a sophisticated "Quad-Cam Zoom Mechanism" which enables four lens barrels to be extended and retracted effortlessly - achieving compactness at 28mm, while holding precise extension at 300mm.

Strength:

I love the fact I don't have to switch lenses. It was a good value and for the size of lense the weight is good.

Weakness:

slow to focus at the 300 mm other than that I have found none.

I have been waiting for someone to come out with a lense like this. Don't have to take all my other lense with me. Has really cut done the weight of my bag.

Strength:

I HAVE A NIKON F5. I LIKE PRECISION. I HAVE A TAMRON 28-300 AND THINK IT IS A GREAT ALL AROUND LENS. BUT THE REAL REASON I LIKE IT IS ON A PERSONAL NOTE. MY MOTHER HAS ALWAYS WANTED TO LEARN PHOTOGRAPHY. RECENTLY SHE GOT OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND I WANTED TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH HER. SHE IS 71 AND FRAIL. I WANTED HER TO BE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE AS MUCH AS SHE COULD IN DISCOVERING PHOTOGRAPHY. I BOUGHT HER A NIKON N80 FOR LIGHT WEIGHT. AND THE TAMRON 28-300. SHE HAS A SMILE ON HER FACE AS BIG AS THE SKY. WITH THAT ONE LENS SHE TAKES PHOTO'S OF INSECTS. FLOWERS. FAMILY. SHE IS DISCOVERING WHAT DEPTH OF FIELD IS WHAT APETURE MEANS. WE HAVE A GREAT TIME TOGETHER NOW. I DON'T THINK YOU COULD PRY HER LENS AWAY FROM HER WITH A CROWBAR.
SHE LIKES TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THE TELEPHOTO SHOTS OF FAMILY IN THE SUNLIGHT AS SHE SETS IN THE SHADE.

Weakness:

FOR WHAT IT WAS MADE FOR. NONE AT ALL.

NOTHING WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT'S PLACE WITH MY MOTHER. AND I THINK IT IS A GREAT LENS TO GRAB MYSELF (I HAVE MY OWN TOO) FOR WEIGHT PURPORSES ON AN OUTING WITH MY MOTHER. FOR OF COURSE I USE NIKON LENSES FOR PRECISENESS MY SELF FOR EXAMPLE THE AF 17-35 F2.8D WIDE ANGLE AND THE AF 85MM F1.4D WHICH IS GREAT FOR PORTRATES

Strength:

Great flexibility in one lens, decent size and pretty decent macro capability

Weakness:

Poor at longer focal lengths, a bit slow on the auto focus

Thought this lens was awesome, no need sor two separate lenses..until I developed several shots taken at 300mm..fuzzy pictures, not sharp at all eventhough i used a tripod, was very dissapointed and I returned for a 28-205 and 70-300 Nikons. Separates are a bit of a pain but I expect quality to be better

Strength:

convinient; pretty sharp lens, light compared to other lens in the same class

Weakness:

SLOW AF!

When I first got this lens I was very happy with it until I started to buy some other fixed focal lens. Now I don't use this lens much any more because I don't use telephoto much. The lens produces nice and sharp pictures. The biggest draw back is its AF speed. It is very slow!! This is NOT the lens for actions.

Strength:

Excellent Range, relatively compact, zoom lock

Weakness:

Heavy for an all purpose lens, but a sacrifice for the range.
Not very fast a low end.

I used this lens on my vacation in the Carribean two weeks ago. Shot 16 rolls of film and did not have any bad shots. The range is super and allows me to not miss shots because of the distance. This is an excellent value. Not my best quality lens, but my favorite.

Strength:

Compact, nice range on the zoom

Weakness:

Not a bad lens especially for travelling. Takes good pictures. The barrel is a little large and I find that when I use it on a Nikon N70 with the built in flash, there is a shadow
in the photo. Be careful!!
Other than that it is a great all around lens.

Strength:

Great range
Fairly compact size

Weakness:

Very soft over 200mm
Soft under 200mm
Slow AF

If you only want pictures to remember your vacation by, and you can only carry one lens, then get this lens. If you think you'll be able to get sharp tele photos, think again. Color rendition is good, but lens is soft at all focal lengths. AF is slow, but not too bad considering the range.

Strength:

Great range, not too expensive

Weakness:

Very soft above 200mm, Slow AF

I thought this lens would be the answer for hiking and traveling - no other lenses needed. Wrong. If you are interested in sharp pictures, this is not the way to go. The lens is too slow for low light situations, too soft above 200mm and the AF is slow too. Found I got much better results with the cheap, bottom of the line Canon 50mm 1.8. Dont buy this lens if you are serious about photography - get it for snapshots.

Strength:

Size, weight, sharpness, range.

Weakness:

The zoom out felt stiff at first. I keep locking the zoom by accident.

Wow. I needed to reduce the weight of my camera and I wanted more range. I shot using a 28-100 for many years and found it frustrating to constantly need to change to a 70-210. The lens is way sharp. The focus is fast. The lens hood works for most situtations except flash photography < 35MM. This is the best investment I have made in the last 10 years.

None so far

Well I'm a beginner who takes my photography serious. I didn't want to spend the kids college funds on those huge lenses you have to have so they hold up to looking at the photographs through a magnifying glass. I wanted a lens that I could take a photo and obtain a nice enlargement, 11X7 of family members, nature shots, and sporting events the kids are involved in. This lens does that and is very crisp throughout the range. I have had two rolls of film developed and they are magnificent, much better than the lens that came with my cannon rebel. Added bonus most of your $500 and less cameras have centered weighted metering but not spot metering, guess what you get when you zoom in take your center weighted reading and then zoom back out, compose and shoot. If you are real worried about crispness in your pictures and your not a professional or elitist buy this lens. I'm working on using low speed film 50, 100, 200, using a good tripod, and bracketing my shots, I've seen more and more crispness in my photos doing this. I have a acer negative/slide scanner ($330) and a lexmark Z52 printer ($139) and its amazing the 11X7 prints I get on Kodak glossy paper. They look better than the premium 4X6's I get back from the photo lab by far. A few photoshop skills help of course.
