Strength:

light weight
color contrast
comes with lens hood

Weakness:

bit soft at corners

I tried the above lenes in a controlled test and in the field. I dont care what others say I tested the Sigma 17-35, Tokina 19-35 (with print film only at a pro lab and mini lab) and the Nikon 18-35. The 3 lenes can out similar. Yes. I first purchased the Tokina on price. But the build was poor and I retuned it to dealer same day and replace it. It retuned good picturers, no joke. I was not 100% happy so spent the extra on the Nikon and can report the following: it is definety better than the sigma and more contrasty than the Tokina. If you require the best in all conditions then the Nikon wins but all the lenes performed well. The softness on the corners is a bit of a pain and lets it down a bit. Overall a very good lens to own and I dont know what I did with out it before.

Strength:

Optical quality and affordable price.

Weakness:

None.

Very sharp lens at a reasonable price (little more than 800 euros). Maybe even sharper than the superprofessional 17-35 f/2.8. Very low distorsion for this kind of lens and no vigneting at all. It's the lens I'll always keep in my bag.

Customer Service

Last year I had to repair my Nikon FM2 (minor damage after dropping from a couple of meters on the rocks!!!) and it was ok.

Strength:

1) Price
2) Light
3) Hood Provided
4) Good Optic from Nikon

Weakness:

1) Soft at below 28mm
2) Weak at 18mm
3) Thin expensive filter
needed

A very cheap option as compared to the Nikon flagship of the 17-35mm f2.8 lens. Extra care need to be taken with this lens due to the wide angle, expensive thin filter need to be use to get the lens to the optimum. A good lens to have for non-professional, considering it cost only a fraction of the Nikon 17-35mm.
