Strength:
Light Cheap Decent images 22mm is pretty wide and 55mm is just about normal
Weakness:
Distortion Slow Plastic Image quality just isn''t anywhere near a GOOD zoom or a prime. It''s . . . ok. I''ve taken a few rolls with this sucker, and I do have to say that the quality of the images I took from it were better than I expected. Distortion is a problem. But, I just don''t know about this plastic 4-5.6 stuff. Made in Taiwan. No focus distance #''s or depth of field info. It''s cheap because it''s a consumer lens. Most everyone out there today wants zooms, but zooms are kinda cheezy until you start shelling out the large bills, and then they start getting really heavy. I think that most people just don''t realize how powerful those numbers written on your lens are. f4-5.6 means that when you''re zoomed in all the way, your lens gets 4 TIMES less light than a 2.8 lens, and 16 times less light than a 1.4 lens. When you put a 2.8 on your camera, your 100 speed film is what 400 speed film is to everyone using this lens. So my advice? If you are only going to have one lens, get a 50mm 1.8. If you want wide angle, get a 28mm 2.8. Both of these primes are priced in the same range as this zoom, but their quality is much, much higher. And if you''re deadset on getting a zoom and your price limit is 120, then get this. It''s a better lens than the booty 28-80 that comes with most of the Rebels. Customer Service Haven''t needed it. Strength:
Good zoom range. Fast & silent focusing (thanks to USM technology). No vignetting as I can see.
Weakness:
Heavy distortion! You can see the barrel dstortion at 22mm and the pincushion distortion at 55mm in your viewfinder! This is a really affordable wide angle zoom from Canon. Build quality is not so good but you get what you pay for. Similar Products Used: EF 28mm f/2.8...absolutely beautiful lens for slightly more dollars. You''re stuck with the fix focal length though. |

Strength:
22mm wide angle, USM, good optics, combine this lens with a good quality film and you create some very good photos
Weakness:
none so far WIDE ANGLES... Would be a gem if it were a little faster but for the price, it does quite well. Lens mount is plastic but not considered a minus. Side lighting some times may cause problems. So, it would be a good thing to pack a hood. Has good clear optics. Customer Service not needed Similar Products Used: Canon 28-90mm Sigma 28-135mm |

Strength:
Zoom range and current price. It provides that extra wide view that you see in the magazines. Did not vignette at 22mm with cokin A series polarizer (the 28-105 does at 28mm???)
Weakness:
It will flare out when light strikes from the side. Use the supplied hood. EOS users should buy it while it is available. It is sharp, wide and close. Extra-wide to normal range is extremely useful. Customer Service not yet Similar Products Used: Canon 28-105 usm |

Strength:
It is not to burn a hole in your pocket.
Weakness:
The contrast is not so impressive. Having it for 6 months, I like it very much. 22mm is fun and handy. If you make living on photograghy, it is not the choice. It is just for casual amateurs. For 4x6, it is great. You will have to be careful when you blow the picture to 8x10 or bigger, it may not be sharp enough. I only have 1 or 2 of 8x10 every 20 rolls(I will select the best one to make big picture). So it is fine with me. Similar Products Used: Eos 50mm f1.8 |

EF 22-55mm f/4-5.6 USM
Strength:
Inexpensive lens with reasonable sharpness and very high contrast. 22mm wide end is a plus for landscapes. Built quality is very good for a plastic-mount lens. Micro USM is quiet although not very fast. Light and handy for trips and casual shots. Excellent value.
Weakness:
High barrel distortion and light fall off at wide end. Only 5 diaphram blades as the usual Canon "low end" design. Rotating front element makes the use of a polarizer a nightmare. Hey, what else can you expect from an under $200 lens with ultra wide angle and USM? Cheap, gives you the most "bang for the buck" when you occasionally require ultra wide angle shots and like to travel light. Customer Service Although this lens is manufactured in Taiwan (I would feel more comfortable if it has marked "Lens Made in Japan" instead of just "Canon Inc.") I haven't had any trouble with this lens, excellent quality control. Similar Products Used: Canon EF 24-85 3.5-4.5 |

Well it is cheap and covers good angles.
Weakness:
Well the lens should come with distance indicator. I must say so far I didn't regrad spend that bit for that much. I will recommend it to people who goes for economic quality. Customer Service Never needed for Cannon lens so far. Similar Products Used: Canon 35-135mm, 75-300mm. |

Big time bang for play money. Use it on 35mm cameras for a super bargain Wide Angle zoom. I never tried it on APS camera.
Weakness:
Feels kinda cheap, but then again, it is cheap. Mine always feels kinda loose, but no problems in over a year of use. This is a super bargain, the only wide angle zoom that comes close is the Vivitar Series 1 19-35 (159.99) We can complain all day about little flaws, but if you need wide to normal action and would rather not spend an eternity changing lenses, buy this today! Customer Service never had to use it. Similar Products Used: Vivitar Series1 19-35 AF Minolta and nikon |

Strength:
"Normal" lens for Canon APS slr. Extreme to normal focal length for 35mm. A very versatile product for two formats at not a lot of money. In optics you get what you (can) pay for, while a 17-35L would undoubtedly be better, it's also bigger and much more expensive.
Weakness:
"Consumer grade" construction. All plastic body and rotating front element. No depth of field scale. For 35mm this lense is a bargain, going as it does from a 90 Degree wide angle to just slightly beyond normal. Granted it does have some distortion at the wide end, but even higher priced lenses have that. Just don't use it to photograph a Bauhaus skyscraper. For trees its more than OK. Personally I think this lense is a hidden jewel in the Canon lense lines. Sure there are better and more expensive offerings. But when you have a low salary, and love photography, this lense at less than 150 bucks is a real pleasure. Similar Products Used: Canon EF 24-85 |
