Strength:
SHARP to the corners even opened up. Excellent build--manual focus is smooth and AF is quick. Little distortion despite WIDE angle of view. Its good contrast increases the appearance of sharpness.
Weakness:
Not at all a "weakness" of the lens, but consider the added expense of slim wide-angle filters in order to avoid vignetting. Well worth the money--and it is a little steep, but not relative to the super-wide market in general. I think this lens is even sharper than the 50 1.4. It is a super lens for street photography as people often don't suspect they are in your composition. It is also excellent for environmental portraits--again, i should stress the lack of distortion throughout most of the frame (significant at the edges, but not gross). The most useful photographic item i own. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Nikon 50 1.4 AF-D |

Strength:
For more than 12 years I owned a 20mm f3.5 Nikkor and it was the sharpest lens of my collection, nothing came close ! sadly I had to depart from it, I was very worried that this new 20mm f/2.8 D lens wasn't going to be near the quality but happily it is ! This is what an AF lens should feel like. When in Manual focus it feels delicious ! just like the MF Nikkor lenses, AF response is fast and it is VERY sharp. There is simply NO REGRETS ! edge no edge sharpness, well controlled aberrations and flare.
Weakness:
I would have prefered the 52mm diameter filter thread, but I guess 62mm is fine. Other than that it is absolutelly perfect ! This is one of the lenses that in my view, are absolute win/win, if you are considering a wide angle this is the lens to get, everyone loves this lens ! Strength:
Fast focus, super sharp, lightweight, lots of depth of field, and 2.8.
Weakness:
Need to put a filter on the front element. Large scratchable surface. Needed something rectilinear and wide. My fisheye is great but not straight. If you can't afford a 17-35 or a 20-35 zoom, buy this lens. You can always move in to get closer. What a great lens! If you can afford one, buy it. Customer Service None Similar Products Used: None |

Great depth of field
Weakness:
None Great lens for general use, but especially for wide angle scenics. Just took this lens for a trip to Yosemite and Monterrey and came away with some great photos. You won't go wrong with this selection of a lens. I was contemplating between buying this lens vs the Nikon 18-35 ED zoom but felt that the zoom lens seemed too "plasticky" when I was checking it out. While the ED glass was tempting, the feel of the 20mm lens and the faster f-stop along with the great reviews it has received so far made me decide on the 20mm lens instead. I have not regretted it so far. Customer Service None needed Similar Products Used: None |

Very sharp;
Weakness:
no really, if I have to point out one, I'd say the front size of 62mm is a little bit large. This is an outstanding lens made by Nikon. I tried it with a regular no brand skylight filter and found that no vignetting over f/8 and just a little vignetting at 2.8 and 5.6. I also tried it with Cokin P filters on. I used CPL, 81A and graduate ND all together, and found that there is no vignetting even at f/2.8. The image is sharp from near to far, from the center to the edge. If you want a ultra wide perspective, this lens is surely your choice. Customer Service n/a Similar Products Used: n/a |

ultra wide angle with large aperture.
Weakness:
distortion still noticed even on 4"x6". it is a good lens but just too expensive, if compared with the vivitar which is 4 times less. i don't think the quality is 2 times better. if you are on a budget go for the MF vivitar. anyway both lens have distortion and flare. not a 52mm filter This is a great lens. I rented it to see if it would be suitable as my wide-angle prime, and I had fun using it. This lens though is really wide (duh?). I would recommend to rent it first to see if it really fits in. I found it too much for leaving on the camera for extended periods of time. Overall though really great lens. Great lens... I have seen complaints about the filter size but I see that the 62mm filter size is perfect for this lens and that nikon did a great job designing this lens.
Weakness:
NONE FOUND...A LITTLE ON THE EXPENSIVE SIDE, BUT EVERYTHING IS IN PHOTOGRAPHY. Great lens works really well for outdoor photography. Gives me great scenic shots from the tops of mountains. Very light and bulletproof. Works great with fisheye auxillary lenses. Customer Service DID NOT NEED ANY Similar Products Used: Olympus Zuiko 24mm |

Strength:
One of the nicest lenses Nikon has produced. Small and unobtrusive and can come close to subjects without much notice.
Weakness:
Can exhibit some vignetting if more than two layers of filter are used, This lens is soooo SHARP and the DOF so wide that it is permanently set by a black electrical tape to f8 and 3 meters distance, AF off, aperture priority mode, using ASA 400 film....EVERYTHING FROM 1.5 METERS TO INFINITY IS SHAAARP!!! Customer Service I service my lenses myself. It is therapeutic... Similar Products Used: Canon and Nikon lenses |

Wide very wide.
Weakness:
Some dark corners with standard Hoya filter. The thin filter would be better, I think, I first bought the Nikon 18-35 to be able to get some of the shots I was missing with my Tamron 24-135. I really wasn't that impressed with the 18-35 and I found the at 18mm perspective is very difficult to control, so I desided to exchange it for this 20mm.
