Strength:
Beautiful bokeh, fast, quick, well balanced, sharp, good colour rendition and priced sensibly. FTM USM is wonderful.
Weakness:
Lacks the ultimate resolution of the Contax G 90/2.8 (e.g. shadow detail, ''3D'' look, etc.) but then makes up for it by being a stop faster. A great lens; whilst not quite as sharp nor as even-handed as my Contax G 90/2.8, it is faster and therefore at f2.8 holds its own versus the wide-open G lens. AF is fast, decisive and quiet. The lens is moderately sized, and balances well on the end of an EOS 5. It is about as good a lens as I''ve tried on the EOS, although it lacks that L-look (I also compared it against the 28-70/2.8L, which I used to own, and I felt the L-glass gave that lens the edge at 70mm, f2.8, but by a small margin). Customer Service Not used. Similar Products Used: Contax G2 with 28/2.8, 45/2.0 and 90/2.8 EOS 18/3.5, 50/1.8, 28-70/2.8L, etc. Mamiya 7-II with 80/4 Bronica ETRSi with 75/2.8 |

Strength:
Light in weight, silent, fast, sharp, lovely bokeh
Weakness:
None Really a great lens for portrait It give me a excellent sharp image when aperture f/2.8 and come with very lovelly bokeh Although sharpeness is little bit worse than EF 100mm f/2 USM (just very little bit at f/2, at f/2.8 it give me really excellent quality), but the lovelly bokeh is EF 100mm f/2 USM can''t give me I love this lens very much Similar Products Used: EF 100mm f/2 USM EF 70-200 f/2.8 L USM |

Strength:
Very sharp, light, fast and quiet USM focusing, manual focus override.
Weakness:
Have not find any so far I am spoiled and lazy, so I use zooms mostly, but if I were told to use a fixed focus prime, this definitely would be one of my choices. It is may be too sharp sometimes, but let it be the biggest problem. Minolta 85mm G is marginally better, but it is a much more expensive lens. Strength:
Sharp, compact, light weight, fast focusing, quite fast aperture, good for all purpose.
Weakness:
Build quility not as good as L series lense but considering the price what do you expect? I like this lens! Compare to 100/2, 85mm is more suitable for all purpose photo taking especially when you are using it indoor. 100 f2 may be a bit sharper but it's sometimes too long to be used for short distance shooting. EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
Strength:
Lightweight, sharp, no distortion
Weakness:
Build quality, a tiny bit; would pay slightly more to have this in L-series build as it's so good. Makes eye control on the EOS 5 work like a dream, and it's my #1 portrait lens. Superb Similar Products Used: 85L tried out, but too clunky compared to the 85 f/1.8 which is L-series sharp & contrasty. |

EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
Strength:
Fast, sharp, well made and easy to AF or MF
Weakness:
none This is one of my favorite lenses. It's obviously great for portraits but also as an all-around lens due to its fast aperture and natural perspective. If you use a tripod, you can get really big enlargements compared to the long end of a typical 24-85 or 28-105 zoom. Customer Service OK Similar Products Used: EF135/F2.8 SF |

EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
Strength:
Relatively light, well-made, nice USM focusing, incredibly sharp (often need to use Canon's Softmat 1 with it!, good value for the money.
Weakness:
Don't care much for dinky clip-on shades, but it's effective. Stores OK in my camera bag with shade attached to lens. The classic portrait lens, plus a super available-light optic. I have made the 85mm focal length my standard people lens for years (especially for shooting women!)It's L-series optical quality with out the price. I recommend using a soft focus filter on it, as the resolution of the EF 85mm f/1.8 is so high that it might be unkind to some subject material, like pimply-faced teenagers. This is a good example why they refer to single-focal length optics as 'prime' lenses. Customer Service Never required any on EF lenses. Similar Products Used: FD 85mm f/1.8 |

EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
Strength:
Light, compact and good color reproduction and Fast AF speed, 1/2 stop more than his brother 100mm/2.
Weakness:
Sharpeness is little bit worse than 100mm/2. The light weight and good quality of this lens at the price level is amazing. However, due to the overlapped zoom range if using some standard zoom lens, most people will consider 100mm/2. Customer Service no idea Similar Products Used: EF 35-70 f3.5-4.5 |
