EF 20mm f/2.8 USM
Strength:
This is the wide angle lens I prefer over all others, there is practically no key stoning at all. It is designed for high performance, I have used this lens all over the world with great success.
Weakness:
The lens hood its flimsy I swear by this lens in tough situations, wether its photojouralism on the run or nature photography. This lens takes some beating. Customer Service Never Had the need Similar Products Used: Canon 24mm f1.4 |

Strength:
Very sharp, excellent contrast, fast.
Weakness:
Lens hood could be better. Great value, solid work horse lens! Works very well as a substitute macro lens for close up flower shots (bright, contrasty, simple). I've used it in (severe) cold weather for extended periods without any hint of problems (with the lens, I fared worse :-). Buy a good circular polarizer for it too. Customer Service Not used. Strength:
Great clarity, sharp images with beautiful detail.
Weakness:
A little too pricey for my liking, I held out for a long time. Great lens for landscapes, abstract imagery, the FOV is sooooo wide, it's a beaut! If you can afford it, get it. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Just as sharp as my old 20mm 2.8 FD lens. Nice quiet autofocus that is also accurate.
Weakness:
None found yet. Looking for a wide angle lens. This was the one I wanted after using an FD version for 18 years. Extremely sharp. Autofocus is accurate and quiet as well as fast. Have manually focused this lens also with no problems. Thought I wanted a 17-35 but I think this lens is just as sharp and fits my needs better. Customer Service Not used yet. Shaaaarp, fast, smooth, quiet.
Weakness:
Lack of included lens hood Really a great alternative to the 17-35 lens. It gives you a 94.5 degree angle which is 10 degrees tighter than the 17-35. But it is not remotely close in sharpness and distortion. This lens blows door on the 17-35. I bought it after giving the Sigma 20mm 1.8Ex a run. That is a very nice lens and equally sharp. I could not get by the cheap sparkle finish Sigma uses though and the Sigma 82mm filter size was a drag. The canon offers very little in my opinion than that Sigma. It is about $130 more expensive (when you include the hood) and equally sharp and fast. But the resale value is going to be better when you decide to buy the upgraded version of the 17-35 whenever Canon gets around to addressing that lens. I would highly recommend this lens and shallow hard when you pau the extra $40 for the required hood. Look at the bright side...you will save the $40 on the first filter you need to buy vs the 82mm Sigma. Customer Service Not needed Similar Products Used: Sigma 20mm 1.8 EX |

Strength:
Excellent lens! Very low spherical aberration. The lowest chromatic aberration of any of my 3 Canon wides (14mm f/2.8L, 20mm f/2.8, 28mm f/1.8).
Weakness:
I wish Canon would include hoods with their lenses. It's really annoying to buy a lens, then have to hunt down the shade for it. I can recommend this lens without hesitation. Similar Products Used: None |

USM is fast and silent
Weakness:
Significant vignetting wide open (w/ and w/o a filter) I’ve been using The only disappointment has been vignetting when shooting at wide apertures. During b/w test exposures shot with a white background, light fall-off around the edges is clearly visible on a contact sheet through f8. In terms of practical field use, many scenes record without vignetting anywhere from f4-5.6 on down. This is my only complaint, and given the excellent image quality (plus the fact this seems to be common to other super wide lenses), its a shortcoming I’m content to live with. Strength:
Very sharp and contrasty. Nice manual focusing even while AF is turned on.
Weakness:
The mount is noticably tighter than other Canon lenses. This doesn't seem to be a problem though. I have not noticed the vignetting mentioned by another reviewer. But I did not test the lens that way and almost never shoot wide open. I may give it a try when I have some extra time. With "real" photographs (outdoors/nature) I don't see it. I did have to get a super-thin polarizer for this lens however. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: None for this focal length in 35mm. |

Strength:
Very sharp for a wide angle lens
Weakness:
None This is a great lens for the money. For a wide angle lens it is very sharp in my opinion. I use it on the D30, so vignetting is not an issue. Great for landscapes. Customer Service None needed yet. Similar Products Used: Tried Sigma 17-35mmEX and found it to be unacceptably soft. The Canon 20mm f/2.8 is much sharper than the Sigma I had. |
