none I got this Sunpak 5000AF used on Ebay for 25$ shipped. For use with my 2 Fujis S2& S3 pro and my Nikon D50, this is one of the best AF flash i have, eventhough i got a total of 8 Sunpak flashes. This 5000AF is powerful flash, plus it can swivel the head which i need for vertical shots, it came with its matching softbox diffuser, a really nice feature. i love this flash, its my main flash plus i use a another Sunpak 4000AF as a slave flash to cover a big room. Strength:
Powerful flash at a great value of $150. Many manual settings, rear curtain sync works well.
Weakness:
Will not read aperture into from camera in auto mode and therefore needs to be entered manually.
For the price at $150 it is an excellent flash. However, it does not support e-TTL. Auto mode can be used instead and gives excellent exposures, where only the f-stop needs to be entered manually. This powerful flash has the option to match the zoom to the focal length of the camera, and can swivel and bounce. The power output can also be set manually. Weakness:
Customer Service and product performance Do not buy this flash or any products from this company. If you upgrade your camera body, like I did with my Canon, it will not be compatable. All of my other accesseries and lenses work, except the flash. Had I known this I would not have bought it. Also, when I asked Sunpack about this they said it was my fault for upgrading my camera. Not only are thier products bad, but so is thier customer service Customer Service Very poor Similar Products Used: Minolta 3500XI, Sigma 5000 |

price you can point the head anywhere you wish! informative LCD display
Weakness:
loves the taste of double A's cheap shoe mount. Feels like it could break at any moment! But mine has not. Takes ALOT of getting use too. Like many people say, "you get what you pay for." With that out of the way...This flash is great for the weekend photographer. It's cheap, works well and loves to suck down those four AA batteries. If you do plan on getting one, go for it! but don't get all ticked off with the first couple of rolls. Learn to use the bounce and play with your cameras f-stops. Infrared Beam Focusing Assist, Auto Zoom, Lots of options. Slave options when in use with another PZ5000AF. Adjustable power ratio. Tilt and swivel.
Weakness:
Flash must face directly the other unit to work as a slave. Shoe mount plate for standing alone for slave option. Canon units includes it. Incredible results, lots of features. No overexposed skin tones. Never missed a shot. Similar Products Used: Sunpak PZ4000AF, Vivitar 283, Blitz |

Strength:
Bounce, swivel. Not too expensive.
Weakness:
Not wholly compatible with current Maxxum models like the 5 and 7. Prone to locking up. Fairly nice flash for the money. Works well with my two Maxxums, the 5 and 7, but I've discovered at least one compatibility issue. Bounce flash using the built-in flash/camera metering consistently underexposes. Straight on it usually overexposes just a bit. The manual is a bit misleading as far as use with the 5 or 7 - there's a spot in it that says you can't use the flash in a certain mode with HSS, but HSS is not possible with this flash AT ALL with the Maxxum 5 or 7. It's not wholly compatible. Seems to lock up on occasion. Better results come from playing around with the flash and figuring out its quirks. Customer Service Slow email. I sent an email asking about the HSS and never received a reply. Similar Products Used: Sunpak 433D for Minolta MD (great flash) Minolta 280PX |

Strength:
Accurate exposures(when working) Plenty of features(when working)
Weakness:
Not reliable at all, expecially with TR- Power pak Horrible flash. I shoot a lot of weddings per year and this flash can't handle it. Not reliable at all. I've had 3 in the last few months, each one was crap. It locks-up, the connection from the flash to power pack is the worst. The hot shoe is worthless, they work when they chose to. This flash is not meant for professional use, simply is not reliable. This flash has cost me a lot of time and money. I shoot nikon and the sb-80 is worth the extra money. Immediately after picking up the Nikon flash you just know it's more durable. One of the Sunpak's completly stopped working 2 hours after the first use, during a wedding. I had to rebuild one of the others using parts from that one. In short, don't buy it. This is all based on 3 flashes not 1, and on different cameras. You get what you pay for!!!! Customer Service Will be contacting very soon Similar Products Used: Nikon SB-28 Nikon SB-80 Canon 5 series |

Weakness:
NONE - 90% perfect!! This is an excellent flash. I got it with the AC adapter and it complements it so well. I refused to pay for the SB80DX for my Nikon F90X seeing how this one had a GN a lot more powerful than it, or the Vivitar 285, Sunpak 383 and Sigma EF500 which my choices at time. Moreover this had wireless slave capability, 3D Matrix TTL, variable power ratio settings, multi flash mode (you can control the frequency and output of flashes fired in Hertz) and finally, a cool LCD lit screen with an innovative thumb knob to scroll through selections. This is way better than the others considering its flexibility. Regarding the hot shoe screw-type mount that a few have brought up, yes it is a bit outdated BUT if you screw it on firmly (not tightly!), it won't fall off an F90X or F80. Haven't had a problem with freezing and I've used this at least...400 times, no problem with synchronisation either. My ONLY wish is that it made a beeping sound to tell if it's been fired correctly. Strength:
-Great power/Great zoom range -Cheap TR-Pak IIa avaiable for $90 -Backlight LCD -Slave mode -Price is good
Weakness:
-Freezes on my EOS 5 -Still requires batteries to power the LCD and autozoom head despite having a TR-Pak IIa battery attached to the HV socket -Locking wheel does feel somewhat flimsy in the hotshoe I use my 5000AF flash primarily on both of my Canons. I have used this flash on an Elan 7e since the day I recieved it. I am a photojournalist for my university, and this flash has always worked when I needed it. I sometimes use this flash in manual mode on a lightstand. I have a 12"x16" Photoflex softbox on it and use this for head-and-shoulders shots and it works great. Not long after I purchased it, I ordered a Tr-Pak IIa NiCad pack for it. It was worth every penny. It offers nearly instant full-power recycle times. Many times you will not use full-power anyways, so this battery will last me a couple of events before I have to recharge it. I only offer one complaint about the 5000AF. I recently bought a Canon EOS 5 from KEH and used it primarily at the last event I covered. Every now and again, the flash and EOS 5 would lock up. I had to turn of the flash and turn it back on in order for both of them to function again. Also, no matter which flash you have, buy the Sto-fen Omni Bounce. It is $20 and works like a charm. The PZ-5000AF has one available at B&H. Customer Service Never needed it. |
