Strength:
* Results are impressive, providing the camera body has 3D matrix metering.
Weakness:
* Hot Shoe and casing could be built more rugged. Not as rugged as the SB-24. This flash is very useful during day (fill flash) and evening (very dark). Matrix-Fill flash appears to work as advertised - though it's still hard to imagine how the "pre-flash" functions, though technology advancements are considered. The construction is not a durable as my SB-24 whoich has been dropped and retained it's contruction - I would be afraid to see what happens if the SB-28x is dropped or bouned around. Customer Service Had hot-shoe replaced by Nikon; I was without the flash for over 6 weeks. Upon return, the metal "tab" that locks into the camera (F100 and N80) was loose. Strength:
lots of features, easy to use
Weakness:
flimsy bounce card attached to head. I had the same problem that others mentioned (the flash fires at it's own free will). But that was only when I used the SC-17 sync cord. Turns out that it was the sync cord that was defective, not the SB-28. I've had problems with the SB-24 and SB-16A. I'm hoping that I will not have problems with the SB-28. What can I say? I'm a true Nikon diehard. THe SB-28 works great with my F-100. Matrix balanced fill flash is as easy as pointing and shooting. Customer Service I haven't had to use them (yet). Strength:
Very reliable, very light. Most importantly, very accurate.
Weakness:
Even though I have had no problems whatsoever, the flash seems cheaply built. I do not like the hot-shoe mount. In my opinion this is a great piece of equipment. I shoot mountain bike races every weekend and this baby has never let me down. I use Fuji 800 press film, my SB-28, a Nikon F100, and a Tamron 28-105 SP f2.8 for 90% of the shots. Conditions vary greatly, hot, cold, rainy...ect. This set-up works perfectly. I am amazed at how well the flash works in direct sunlight (fill). Some of my photos look so awesome, because of the flash/camera combo. I don't understand the specifics of matrix fill-flash technology, all I know is that it works very well for me. Customer Service No problems, it has been very reliable thus far. Similar Products Used: Many flashes, many suppliers. |

Invincible functions and accuracy. Set standard for others to follow/copy. It's amazingly powerful and versatile. A must buy for F5 user.
Weakness:
Nil. Already far ahead of others. When evaluated with the power, the precision and versatility SB-28 gives, it is value for money. It's the perfect partner with F5 and Nikon AF-D type lens. Similar Products Used: SB-24 |

3D TTL Matrix Flash is great, not to happy with it indoors though
Weakness:
Looks cheap compared to my SB-24 thats built like a tank. Occasionally fires my shutter on my F100 without any reason Good flash goes well with all modern Nikon AF cameras. When buying try and get one with a serial number begining with 3 or one begining 224 or higher Customer Service Not tested Similar Products Used: SB-24 |

I use this sucker for wedding photography, and when I first got it I couldn't believe how long the batteries lasted. I thought something must be WRONG. Nope; every shot is absolutely perfectly exposed for fill-in flash. I use it with a Nikon N90S with the SB17 cord and the strobe on a stroboframe. The only problem I have is that I get an unattractive shadow under the chin at times with the strobe up on that frame; for portraits, that can be softened by a bounce sheet down low in front of the subject(I am a contortionist).
Weakness:
bounce and diffuser cards attached flimsily to head. If they break off, kiss them goodbye. They are not of much use, anyway. One more of these in my bag and I will be a happy camper. Hmm....what am I waiting for? Customer Service I hope to not need this. Calls about other Nikon troubles yielded unpleasant discussions with snappish, short-tempered young men that led me to have repairs done locally. zip! I love it, works perfect for fill in and night use. Would buy it again, I use a 24-120 with no problem ever. I use it to take photos of my family and at the cub scouts with my new F5. Buy it you will use it. Very powerful. Never had a pic with red eye yet. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: vivitar, minolta |
