Has broken three times have given up

This flash has broken three times in the last 2 years. Goes entirely dead. Nikon fixes and returns and 40 or 50 flashes later goes completely dead again. I now use as paperweight

Strength:

One of Nikon's most powerful models. Very easy to use, somewhat intuitive controls. Very nice LCD screen with indiglow!

Weakness:

Buttons may be a little small for my fingers, but that's hardly Nikon's fault. Takes a little while to find special features.

If you can afford one of these, there is probably nothing better on the market. Very likely this will be the only flash you ever need.

Customer Service

Strength:

The SB-28 packs a bunch of functions into this flash. Yet it still can be used manually.

Weakness:

The bounce card seems a bit cheesy but I really haven't had any problems with it.

Swivel head likes to stick from to time but a light cleaning usually clears this up.

I have had this flash for a little over six months now and I'm still going back to the owner's manual to learn about more features on it. I really enjoy the outcome when used during the day for a fill flash. Really can get me through some bad lighting situations that I might not have been able to take everything into account for.

Pricey but you get what you pay for

IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT, BUY IT IF YOU USE A LOT OF FLASH. GREAT FILL FLASH. I CAN EVEN USE IT IN SOME NATURE SHOTS.

Strength:

The power of a flash this small is surprising. Under the most difficult lighting situtions, the SB-28 has not failed me. It's small and lightweight, has a brilliant fill flash and coupled with a pro Nikon, the TTL abilities provide beautifully well-balanced lighting. Love that is syncs at such a high shutter speed.

Weakness:

I haven't found any yet.

I am a professional photographer. I started off with the SB - 26, but last year I got the SB-28, and I could not be happier. Both perform well in difficult lighting situations, but the SB 28 is smaller and lighter, and there are no sliding switches to be accidentally hit out of positioin. I shoot all kinds of events, and the SB 28 has saved my butt more than once. It's bonus at an outdoor portrait shoot -- the fill flash in right on. I keep my SB 26 as a back up, but the day will come when I trade it in for another SB-28.

Strength:

Compact, lightweight, versatile, performs very well. Has neat back lit panel. Swivel and tilt head. Bounce card is a great feature and provokes ooohs and ahhhs from observers and subjects! Makes me look like such a smart pro. Mucho features and adjustability. Great range. Has worked flawlessly for over a year.

Weakness:

None.

I use this on an F100 and N70 with amazing results. When looking at my first slides with balanced fill-flash they looked so natural and evenly lit that I wondered if they were really done with the flash or if I was just loosing my memory. The balanced matrix flash feature works just as advertised, and further testing reveals a wide range of results available to the user who decides to experiment with this unit's features. Adding or subtracting to the flash exposure makes each image of the same subject new and different. The benefits of the SB28 open a new realm of imaging. Using it off-camera is especially neat. It is well worth the money, and time spent learning to use it.

Customer Service

Fast and efficient (for repair on a camera body).

Strength:

This is the "Must have" flash for the F5/F90x. It is packed full of features, easy to use, and exceptionally flexible. I am still experimenting with it.

The F5/SB28 combination get the fill-in flash right every time. It is simply a pleasure to use.

Weakness:

The bounce card and wide angle adapter fitted into the top of the unit does not seem upto the usual Nikon standard. It will be interesting to see how it lasts over time!

If you have an F5 or F90X, this is the flash for you! Simply brilliant!

Customer Service

Never had to use it.

Strength:

Good general purpose unit, functions as specified with at least F5 & F90X

Weakness:

Lacks the punch for serious outdoor work. Sometimes has a mind of its own, very delicate focus motor, always pack it well and take care of it when its on the camera.

Probably the best general use flash for recent Nikons but stand up under pressure in the commercial world. If you see a SB26 going at a good price, grab it, you'll be better off in the long run.

Customer Service

Okay (Maxwells, Australia) except when waiting on parts from Japan.
