Fine grain, amazing skin tones.

Needs to be done by a proper lab or in person to look the way it should, I think normal labs tend to boost the saturation?

It is Bit expensive, especially compared to the bargain that is Superia, but I can find it for £2.50 a roll online.

For something that has only been around as long as digital cameras have and is often update, (I think the latest improvement was in the last year or so) it gives a really classic film look to pictues that make you realise why you use it.
It really complements people skin and looks great in all sorts of different lighting conditions.

Very accurate color, tight grain

None really, unless you're looking for punchy color.

Although this film is basically a portrait film, I find it quite pleasing for outdoor landscape photography. The colors are exactly as seen with good detail in the highlights and shadows. Don't look for super saturated colors with this film, just a good reproduction of the actual scene.

Nice and soft for portraits, wonderful skin tones, good colour. Scans very well.

not too fined grained, suffers from blue cast in shade ( not like fuji films )

I used this with a sample pack of 400UC, I tried in almost overcast conditions and was rather pleased with the results. The grain isn't too fine, abit corse actually for it's speed but the structure is well defined and tight. Scans very well ( fuji are you listening to this! ) Compared to NPS ( fuji NPC is closer to 160 VC/UC ) the colour is a tad more saturated, lower contrast a bit grainier. Over Exposes well, highlights don't blow out easily. Similar colour cast issues in shade as the 400 UC, blueish overtones ( unlike Kodaks typical red ) that curves can't fix well. This isn't a sharp film but abit soft ( possibly due to lower contrast ) which makes for wonderful portraits. I won't be replacing NPC or NPS with this film but it's found a place in my bag.

Did my first wedding and iI decided to use Portra 160 NC. I was glad that I used it I used four rolls of it and one of Portra 400NC All but a few came out very good the ones that didn't was my fault not the films. the skin tone were perfect and the colors were right on.

Classic skin tone. Smooth grain. Good asa range rate at 160 but as I prefere to shoot slower at 120. Easily available and not expensive.

Fantastic. Classic skin tone reproduction and very accurate colours. I took some photos of my daughters and even my wife complemented - which must be something! I only used this film for portraits taken indoor (studio flash or by the window) so can not comment on outdoor use. I am sure Fuji's film are excellent as well. Personally I like the result of my Carl Zeiss and Kodak combination. This is the set up: Home studio, 160 NC (set at asa 120), f11.5, 1/60 to 1/125 sec, Carl Zeiss 50mm / 1.4 and 85mm / 2.8 lenses, no filters (taken off the uv filter), black back drop, 1 200w umbrella flash, hand held.

I used it to shoot a trip to a park under bright sun light. This film did an outstanding job and produces vivid color with just the right levels of contrast. The skin tone is beautiful for all nationalities and the green (trees) and blue (sky) are rich and saturated. This is a good all around film, not limited to wedding.

Excellent wedding/people type film. Fairly available. The labs, in my area at least, are used to working with it.

Cost, but you get what you pay for.

OK. OK. First off this is a wedding/people type film, at this it does a truly outstanding job. Blacks are black, whites are white. Skin tone, very pleasing. Pay attention to exposure and processing (a good color lab) and you will be pleased with the end product. If you need more color try the VC (this can make some interesting portraits, at times). I also find this film to be consistant, from roll to roll, which is important. I liked Vericolor. I love Portra NC.

Its lack of colour saturation is its great strength and downfall. Some people love those colours that just jump off the print. I prefer natural colours, which is what this film is made to deliver. The skin tones are right on, and everything else is reproduced accuratley, although it might look "pale and washed out" to some. In my opinion, its the best print film to use to photograph people. If you are shooting landscapes, flowers, et cetera, its horrible! In these cases, saturation is a must. Also, it prints excellently on Fuji Crystal Archive paper.

Trues colours, good speed, and good skin tone

There''''s two kinds of peoples, warm and cold''''ones. If you prefer the cold side,it''''s your film.For myself I prefer this film,because I don''''t like the "summer tan look" for my clients. The colour is right on the spot, a good thing and a bad one,depend of what kings of job and what kinds of clients you have...For wedding I remarked my clients usely prefer saturated colours, for the flowers or everything who is not black or white.. In this occasions I will take the 160 VC. And for people who ask me "true colour" the NC version is my choise ..

Color reproduction, contrast suitable for portrait photography, great color differentiation

Maybe slightly too visible grain, but very slightly, expensive

Simply Great. Tonality, contrast, color reproduction - excellent. The only film from Kodak I use (the rest from Fuji, because they prove to be better). I routinely exposed my films +1/3 to recommended ISO, i.e ISO 125 in case of this film.
