Strength:

Fine Grain,
Tolerence on +/- exposures

Weakness:

None so far

Recently doing some experiments on the new bought Holga 120S, as the shutter in these toy are just fixed at 1/100 and aperture at f:8, I tried both NPH and the 160NC using flash indoor.

The results are quite interesting as under similar lighting, the NPH outperform the 160 NC not just in contrast but also finer grain. I might have under-exposed the film but NPH turn out great with good colour and grain even on such toy camera. Can't wait to see how it performs on proper equipment. I'm thinking of changing my daily Reala to NPH.

Strength:

Very pleasing skin tone on black people,The shadow detail is great

Weakness:

Compaired to Kodak Portra, none.

I have been a part time wedding photographer since 1979. for all of that time I just assumed that the Kodak Pro film line (VPS II, VPS III, PMC, and Portra) was the best film. I was very wrong. I tried Fuji NPH in 120, and 220 at my last wedding and was blown away by the skin tones, fine grain, and soft shadow detail. I my never use Kodak Pro film again, although for black ana white there Tri-x cannot be beat for people pictures.

Strength:

Excellent grain and colour reproduction. Good saturation.

Weakness:

A little pricy.

Good general purpose film if you need the fine grain. If you can accept the slightly grainier and less saturated results, Superia is sufficient.

Strength:

Excellent skin tone reproduction
Sharp for a high speed film

Weakness:

Highly recommended for portraiture only.

I absolutely love this film! Very sharp for an ISO 400 rating film. Superb skin tones. I've used this film for majority of my outdoor portraiture. Extremely good on overcast days or in shady conditions. I've used Superia 400 - great overall consumer film but the skin tones always seem to come out reddish and blotchy. I've used NPS 160 but I prefer the 400 speed.

Flexibility
Colors Rendering

Weakness:

None

Being stupid, I prematurely submitted my first review of this film. Perhaps I can do better this time.

I shot 5 rolls of NPH on a recent trip to Disney World, under various lighting conditions, and it performed admirably. The colors rendered very accurately. The brights were bright, and the muted tones were muted. As expected, skin tones were beautiful. I don't understand the knocks against this film regarding color saturation. To me, this is an excellent general purpose film, and I won't hesitate to use it exclusively. I do rate it at 320 as suggested by other posters. For those who shoot color print film, I suggest purchasing a roll of NPH at your local camera shop, then making future purchases via mailorder if you like it. By the way, my processor uses AGFA Prestige paper, and it works well in combination with this film.

Strength:

Great,ACCURATE colors, fine grain for 400 speed film. Good exposure latitude when compared to slower 100 speed films.

Weakness:

Absolutely NONE.

Get a good camera and lens, get a Tiffen 812 filter (it helps with Caucasion flesh tones in shady and overcast conditions and when using a flash) Rate you NPH at 320. I wonder if the previous poster underexposed his film. My favorite lens is my Pentax SMC manual 50mm f1.4. I'll shoot at f 2.8 or f 4 in low light situations in order to get an acceptable shutter speed of at least 1/125(try shooting pics of young kids at 1/30 even when using a tripod).
NPH is probably the BEST choice for most people.I do not like to shoot in the bright sunlight. I prefer hazy overcast or open shade. NPH rated at 320 will allow you to shoot without using a tripod.
I also love Reala 100. I rate Reala at 80 and that makes it pretty slow for taking pictures of kids unless you really open up the lens, which of course shortens you depth of field. You also will probably need a tripod if you want to take decent pics. It's hard to beat a good photo taken on Reala. There is absolutely no grain.

Strength:

Skin Tone

Weakness:

Lack of color
Sharpness
Colors very dull
Very weak contrast

Purchased this film because of the reviews I have read. I shoot is a 320 to help pump up the contrast and was very disapointed with the results. The colors or lack of and sharpness were pretty much 0. Looks like I go back to Kodak were there films are a in another league.

This is a great film for general purpose and especially for people. This film is also excellent for flash photography. I noticed too that the film tends to show a little pinkish hue, but this bias may be important to bring out the skin tone, espacially under a flash.

Model Reviewed: Fujicolor NPH 400 ASA

Strength:

I have always been very happy with Fuji film. It produces nice sharp colorful photos at a much cheaper price that Kodak film.

Weakness:

The only downside to Fuji film is that it is more difficult to locate than Kodak film. It can often be found at Drug Stores, however, I prefer to purchase film at Discount stores, such as Costco, which does not carry Fuji film.

It's a good buy and produces wonderful photos.

Comparable to Kodak film, however I have always felt that fuji's color was better.
