Size and lense quality can't be beat for the price.

Excellent second camera. You get tired of carrying that SLR. Actually, I got tired of carrying that SLR years ago. Now, my everyday camera is a Konica Revio and, despite better picture quality, my second camera is the T-4. Revio is for snaps. T-4 is for keepers.

Strength:

Sharp images; wide exposure range for available light shooting; very good fill flash; portability; simplicity of functions. Right-angle finder can come in handy.

Weakness:

Re-setting of flash values to default is an annoyance.

A great camera. I have never experienced any problem with sharpness or autofocus as expressed by other reviewers, and I suspect those problems were due to the noticeable shutter lag and/or camera shake due to long exposures (this camera can do 1 second or better). It is an excellent available light camera, and the right-angle finder comes in handy: I have taken excellent photos of a Springsteen concert from the 5th row, without flash, with Kodak 800, composing by holding the camera upside down over my head and looking through the right-angle finder. Several of these, enlarged to 8 x 12, are in my office.

Customer Service

Have never had a problem, and my T4s have taken plenty of abuse.

Strength:

Mechanically refined - good ergonomics, and nice tight whizzing little motors.

Weakness:

The autofocus doesn't consistently work with close- to medium-range subjects (e.g. 4-10 ft. away). About 25 or 30% of my subjects are out of focus, and the background is razor sharp. (I know how to use autofocus - have years of experience with other P&S cams, and none has had this problem). What good is a Zeiss lens if it's out of focus?

Minus two for the lousy autofocus. On the bright side, the pictures that ARE in focus are of high quality.

Overall, you can't beat the T4 in regards to the features to price ratio!

The lens is sharp, but not as razor. It's sharp for a point and shoot, but not compared to Nikon or Zeiss SLR prime lenses.

I only shoot black and white and enlarge to 8x10 and for this purpose, the camera has been a success. I can't speak on color rendition.

The weather proof feature is a plus, especially here in foggy San Francisco.

Annoying things? Yes, the exposure is always reset when you turn off the camera. So if you;re shooting with natural light and don't want flash, then you have to press the flash mode button several times to get to the "NO FLASH" setting.

That's really my only complaint.

I bought this camera as a one to keep with me to take street scenes. It's small, light and discreet. My Nikon F4 attracts unwanted attention.

It's quiet and light. The lens cover is handy and means i can just toss the camera into my backpack and know that I have a lens sharp lens at all times.

The autofocus/exposure lock feature was a little tricky at first. You activate it like on an slr: press down half way and hold the shutter release and press down completely to take the picture. The shutter release button is very sensitive and took a little getting used to apply just lightly... you 'll hear this little "chunk" sound when you press halfway.

Strength:

Clear, sharp lens; solid, durable construction; moisture and dust proof.

Weakness:

Obvious vignetting with slower films; erratic focusing, very sensitive to camera shake.

Although it is an impressive, well-built camera (for a plastic P&S) that is capable of taking excellent pictures, in my experience the image quality of the T4 seems to be hit-or-miss affair. I started out using 100 speed film but was often disappointed with heavy light falloff and lack of sharpness from camera shake. It is considerably better with 400 film but has never been 'razor-sharp' as claimed. Judging from what I have read online there seems to be a lot of variation between individual samples, which does not speak well for Yashica's quality control

Available fill flash & flash off.

Weakness:

Autofocus broke on mine within the first year. Friend's T4 failed too (flash mode button) also
during the 1st yr.

Shutter button's middle
position is easy to miss.

Hope others have better luck with reliability.

Strength:

Lens (Zeis Tessar) with exceptional contrast due to good coatings, very good sharpness. In good light pictures can be easily mistaken with ones taken with a pro-level 35mm outfit. Lightweight, reliable.

Weakness:

Major: Tessar shows very noticeable light fall-off towards edges (look at blue sky) when program selects wide aperture.
Minor: Slow release. Flash metering is not quite good. AF and metering are OK but not super.

Good travel camera. Excellent as a backup body. Due to light fall-off problem I prefer to use good 400 film.

Strength:

Required sharp lens for very good outdoor shots, yet able to fit in pocket while hiking.

Weakness:

Not that great on indoor shots -- some misfocus (primarily due to point-and-shoot versus SLR) and flash not fully compensated for.

You want a point-and-shoot that takes sharp photos? Get this camera.

Strength:

Excellent photos! Extremely crisp and clear. Flash is strong. Auto focus good. This is perfect for all users. The price is superb for the quality. It's waterproof and small enough to travel anywhere. Just enough features to make it easy to use and not complicated.

Weakness:

Very touchy. When you try to "set" the focus, it may accidently take the picture. Once you are used to it though, the sensitivity can be a good thing.

Tried both cameras side by side and returned the Nikon and I'm a big Nikon fan.
