Strength:

I can fly like the wind.

Weakness:

I cannot walk on water.

For those who are using this P&S camera to shoot slide film on, are just on crack. You (or any knowledgable individual) would know that slide film only offers 1 stop latitude. You get bad results, then you come here to put your venting out on Olympus or any other Maker. Stop for a second and think about why you''re getting the results you''re getting!!!! Sheesh!

Strength:

Small and compact. Very light. Easily put in pockets (Jeans pockets too). Takes sharp and good pictures. Stylish.

Weakness:

Due to its small size and compactness, sometimes during shooting, can''t locate well the push button.

When I first bought this camera, my wife thought it was a hand phone. So convenient that you can take it anywhere, anytime. Most importantly, it takes great pictures.

Customer Service

Repaired once due to acccidentally dropped on the floor and couldn''t rewind aotumatically. Fortunately, did not cost me much.

Strength:

Spotmeter is good, Size is good for pockets, Rain-resistant, outdoor photography(landscape) is great

Weakness:

Multi-focus beam is nonsense, red-eye reduction does not work, fill-in flash is over-powered, Spotmeter is difficult to set, motor is too noisy, depth of field is shallow, battery consumption is high.

This camera is highly over-rated. I had tested 2 of the Stylus Epics and in both units the default multi-beam focus is Nonsense. Where is it focussing? Most of the time, focus is on the wall or background behind the subject. As with most if not all auto-focus cameras, a steady green lamp must be allowed on prior to full release of the shutter. Now, even with this practiced, the pictures are still not properly focussed. This is even worse when the flash function is utilised. The spot-meter is great, but why is it not the default mode? And why is the red-eye reduction mode still on when the lens cover has been closed? Why not the Spotmeter? The flash is over-powered, turns the subject ghostly white for night shots. Depth of field is not good with only certain faces in focus for a group pix. The battery consumption is horrendous as well. The only good point is that it takes good landscape pictures. If you require a general purpose camera, skip the Stylus Epic. It is a waste of money and effort, even if it is cheap. This is essentially a kids camera - not easy to use but a toy!

Strength:

Small and light.

Weakness:

Tiny viewfinder, tiny buttons, resets to defaults when you close it.

I bought a Mju-II (Stylus Epic in the USA) for my wife last year, to replace her 1970's Konica C35 (rangefinder, 38mm f2.8 lens), and we were both disappointed with the results. The lens just isn't as crisp as her old Konica. I know many people rave about the Mju-II's lens: either they're easily pleased or perhaps we got a duff sample?

As for the flash, it overexposes, and the redeye is just appalling even in anti-redeye mode. Quite useless.

The result is my wife's gone back to using her Konica, and we're scouring the shops looking for mercury batteries for it. What wonderful cameras these old 70's rangefinders were!

Strength:

Sexy look
Quality lens
Good Exposure accuracy
Spot light metering
Wheatherproof

Weakness:

Flash is too close to the lens (too much red-eye)
Wish more manual controls (exposure override; flash power control; appereture priority mode; automatic flash-on at shutter speed 1/30 sec)

Looks sexy!!! (Not for those who thinks Bigger is BETTER)
Simple and carefree camera to take with everywhere. Take pictures comparable to pics from SLRs. Try to use high-speed film (ASA400 or higher) and avoid to use the built-in flash in low-light conditions. You will get the professionall-look pictures.
Strongly recommended.

Strength:

2.8 lens, small, inexpensive

Weakness:

red eye is impossible to avoid. Better buy a red eye retouching pen when you buy the camera

The main reason I purchased this camera is because there were places I did not want to use my Leica (beach, wild parties etc.)The Leica is simply too expensive to take a chance with. This little Olympus does not campare to the Minilux but for $89.00 it is a great camera. It's been wet at Niagara Falls and dropped in the sand in Florida. It still takes great pictures and the only reason I don't rate it a 5 is because of the red eye problem. I'm probably being a little more critical than I should be because any camera this small, with a built in flash, is bound to produce the dreaded red eye effect. Just the same, this little jewel seems to be worse than most.

Strength:

Size. Automation. Short focus distance.

Weakness:

Small rubber buttons. Quartz Date set button/seal jammed out of box. Dealer grabbed a paper clip and pried it back into place. She seemed experienced at this.

Reminds me most of a Weston Master II light meter, right down to the lanyard tied to the center of one end. I've read the instructions and user comments and I think I see how to lock it on infinity (the yellow tab off the film box should wedge into the cover quite nicely-over the focus sensor). But I bought this camera for it's automation, not to start figuring ways to adjust it. Now to get the first roll developed.

Customer Service

Dealer fixed initial control problem.

Strength:

This camera is only $99 for the champagne color with quartz date...not that anyone uses quartz date but it's a nice feature for parties. I bought this camera over the Yashica for the Epic's great reviews, price, and compact size. People complain about a lack of infinity lock. This can be overriden by focusing on infinity and then recompose the picture.

Weakness:

Its weaknesses are the same as other point and shoots. Users must remember parallax compensation when shooting close ups and to hold the camera steady until the camera has taken a shot (there is a small lag time when the shutter is pressed and picture is taken).

simple sexy sharp
cheap compact o just buy it!
Beautiful pics are a result when one uses the autofocus properly (focus exactly on the subject + use spotmeter). The potential of this camera can be achieved if the user experiments.

Strength:

Smallest 35mm compact that I know of.

Best lens in its price range. Fast, fast(f2.8). Very sharp lens. Not as good as a 35mm SLR, but good enough for 12"x18" blowups, if not more.

Weather proof. Built tough. I've dropped it more times than I care to remember. It's been through hot and dry deserts, salty and sandy ocean beaches, wet and muddy rain forests, cold and rocky mountain tops, bright and snowy ski slopes. Survived them all with wonderful pictures.

Weakness:

The exposure meter on this camera is *not* accurate enough for slide film. My test roll of slides came out erratically over-exposed by 1/2 stop or so. Print film is ok because the printer can compensate.

No exposure compensation. Do any other compact cameras have it? There are so many times where I've wanted to overexpose or underexpose by a full stop.

The auto-focus misfires once every 20-30 shots, but that's probably better than my manual focusing abilities.

Lithium battery or the motor mechanisms die below 0 degree Celsius, so you have to keep it warm to take those mountain top photos at night.

Great, sharp pictures. Great durability. And it fits inside your pocket. What more can you ask for?

With some basic knowledge about photography, and an understanding of this camera's more advanced flash modes, you can take some amazing pictures with it! Most important advice: learn how and when to turn off its flash, and what happens to the camera when it is turned off. You'll increase the number of amazing pictures that you'll take by a factor of 2.

I have taken this camera around the world as my only camera, with fantastic results! Highly recommended!!
