Strength:
Body quality, easy controls. Takes IR remote.
Weakness:
Does not accept cable release for long exposure shots. I purchased this camera after comparing with similar Canons, I liked it mainly because of the body. It looks good and it's proven to be a very good one. I have taken this camera everywhere from the Hot California desert to the always rainy seattle, the cold of snowy mountains and the Humid Hawaii. it has never failed. It's a great camera if you want to learn the basics. Great camera for the money. Customer Service Never had to use it. Strength:
Value, quality build. Others in this price range feel like toys while this feels like a real camera.
Weakness:
LCD display isn't illuminated Great camera compared to others in this price range. Has more substantial feel than comprable Canons and Minoltas. In my humble opinion, the lense included with the kit is also a nice match (see my review of the 28-80 f3.3-5.6.) Fits comfortably in your hand and has large LCD display for easy reading. Definately a good value and great for beginners or intermidiates looking for a solid camera to improve their pictures. Customer Service Not yet needed Similar Products Used: Various Canon, Minolta |

cont. 2.5fps only in sports vari mode Having had this camera for almost a year I have no regrets. Some of the missing features people discuss are meaningless to the average hobby/family photo taking. This camera has even help tech me Apature prioty and shutter buy using manuel then automatic vari programs and comparing. I almost always now use flexi program or apature priority. The only drawback I have is the continues mode is only in sport vari program. I married this camera with a Sigma 28-200 lens and can cover almost all occasions. I recently added a 50 mm fast lens for dark room photos without a flash. Been having thoughts of moving to the N80 but will have trouble setting aside this fantastic camera. Body build quality for it's price. Range of features. Ease of use.
Weakness:
No spot metering. Remote control would be easy to loose. Plastic feel to 28-80 G lens although picture quality seems good! I bought this camera as my first SLR as before this I had only used instamatics. I looked at the other brand equivalents like the EOS 300 and Minolta 505si and an F70 which I found a little complicated to work. I decided on the Nikon due to the fact that it felt a little more solid with its metal lens mount. It works well and compared to the F70 is easy to use, which is something that I am glad that Nikon have addressed. It seems to take nice clear sharp images with a 28-80 G lens but I would be interested to see the results with a more expensive lens attached. Overall I'm quite happy with this camera Customer Service Never needed it Similar Products Used: Canon EOS 300 Minolta 404si and 505si Nikon F70 Mamiya MSX 1000 |

Cheap and lightwieght.
Weakness:
Not a very substantial piece of equipment. Uses only CR2 batteries unless you invest in a batttery holder product! No cable release. Good camera but limited if you begin to take photography seriously. Buy it if you are only going to take pictures infrequently. Customer Service Never had need of it. Strength:
Construction, lightweight, excellent features, Nikon excellent lens line, nice feel.
Weakness:
Typical Nikon-esque Matrix Metering stupidity in backlight and contrast. A truly excellent entry-level camera. Will satisfy the beginner through intermediate photographer without any question. Has enough features to satisfy a very experienced photographer as a lightweight "second" camera, and produce excellent photos. Construction is sturdy (I'm pretty hard on it too), complete with Nikon's nice, smooth "tactile" feel with its components. Feels less "cheap" somehow than comparable Cannon or Maxxums (which probably have the same build quality). Camera is also very lightweight, a big plus if you hike/camp with it (and why I'm hard on the camera ;-) Note for beginners wanting to move up with this camera, or experienced photographers: The Matrix Metering system, like nearly all Nikons (save the F5) gets absolutely, embarassingly, fooled with backlight subjects (skies at dusk, silhouettes, etc.). This is just a Nikon "thing", that Canons don't have to anywhere near this extent. For some unknown reason, it honestly seems to overexpose the background (making it washed out) and underexpose the foreground (making it unreadable). This is supposed to be impossible, yet there it is. You have to use the (addmitedly excellent) exposure compensation feature to trick it to take the photo you want. Other than that, this is probably the best serious "entry-level" camera on the market, and I'm including Canon Rebel and Maxxum 5 (which, despite the extra features and spot metering, you are stuck with Minolta's lens "quality" for the rest of your camera life). Customer Service Usually excellent with Nikon USA. Keep the warranty card. Similar Products Used: Canon Rebel, Maxxum 5, Nikon F80 |

Good autofocus, fast shutter speed, METAL LENS MOUNT. all around good camera for the price paid.
Weakness:
Feels a little plasticy, but all the cameras are like that these days. The pop up flash seems somewhat useless in many occasions. I usually just keep it in the off position. I decided to purchase the N65 after also considering the Canon Rebel 2000 and the Minolta Maxxum 5. After taking a few rolls of film and talking to some people at various camera stores in town, I think that I made the best decision. Excellent features, and great east of use for beginners, but it also offers a decent amount of manual control. Customer Service Haven't had to use it yet, but the camera comes with an impressive 2 year warranty. Piece of Junk with a totally worthless warranty! I posted a review of the N-65 shortly after purchasing a new one in July. We initially loved the camera, but the shutter malfunctioned after only 6 weeks. Nikon has refused to honor the warranty and claims the camera was damaged. I'll skip the details, but the way in which they have described the alleged damage is virtually impossible. I have posted the details in the discussion area of this site if your interested. They want to charge us $135 to repair our 6 week old camera! Nikon refuses to honor their product warranty. If you are contemplating buying an entry level camera, heed this warning. My only pleasure in this will be throwing this piece of junk away and buying a Canon. Customer Service Horrible! Their right and your wrong!Their main objective is to charge you for warranty work.
