Strength:
good enough autofocus which gives sharp enough pictures when shooting with ample light.
Weakness:
Pop-up flash is a bit anoying. When used with nikkor 70-300mm ED, autofocus hunts when used indoors. It's a great camera for beginners. It allows you to manually control everything and at the same time, gives you features like shutter or aperture priority, program mode and full auto. Be carefull though where you buy your camera, I got ripped when I bought mine because I saw it advertised $150 lower than the price I paid. Similar Products Used: N6006, N80 |

Strength:
Easy access to controls DOF Preview 2.5 fps Film Advance Auto-bracketing Multi-exposure
Weakness:
Too light-weight Automatic Pop-up Flash I bought this camera as an upgrade from the F60. After a week's use, all I can say is that I'm loving it. I don't have any experience with other Nikon models, but I do know that this camera was not intended for professionals, so I didn't really expect really high-end features. The beauty of the camera also depends on the style and needs of the photographer. For me, this is the perfect fit. The thing is, it's really better than my previous camera. It had easier access to the dial and other buttons, bigger lcd, DOF preview, and 2.5 fps film advance, auto-bracketing, multi-exposure. I just wish it could have added more weight to the body. The built-in flash is also annoying. It's set to default, so I'd have to turn it off everytime. Overall, this is the best camera for beginners who are cost-conscious. Customer Service Not needed. Strength:
I love the light weight which makes it easy when i have to run after my toddler to 'capture the moment'. Besides, it is also handy when we go out for field trips since i just attach a lightweight 50mm f1.8 lens to the body. Perfect combination!!!!!!! Most of all, i love the infra red remote control. It enables me to take photo of myself and my family during holiday trips or birthday parties. Indeed a real plus point!!!
Weakness:
I find that the focussing speed is not fast enough..well, at least not as fast as my son who runs away from the camera!!! :( I feel that the photos taken with my F70 is better than the F65..using the same lens. The most irritating thing is the little assist light that helps in focussing under low light situation. I ended up blinding my son or my hubby even before i could snap....i just sold my F65 3 days ago. I first bought this camera when i sold off my Minolta 505si. I was attracted to this model because of the pre-programmed mode that is idiot-proof. Besides, it is my first 'Nikon' camera at an affordable price. I decided to buy Nikon over Canon EOS 300 because of its metal mount. I thought this F65 was going to be with me for long but over the last 6 months, i have purchased a secondhand F90x and F70 as i have quickly outgrown my F65. Customer Service not needed yet. Strength:
All of the features, like different flash modes, outdoor, macro, portrait, landscape, and evening picture features. Great Weather camera
Weakness:
Auto-focus is a little noisy and a bit slow. It sometimes has trouble focusing at a small object in the viewfinder. Sometimes I needed to go into manual focus. Overall, the N65 is a great advanced casual beginner camera. It's lightweight, full of features, and is priced very reasonably. Customer Service Great customer service and warranty options at Circuit City Similar Products Used: Canon EOS Rebel 2000 Minolta Maxim sti |

Professional
Strength:
It's a great value at the price I paid, $140. It feel terrific in my fairly small hands, very easy to grip with one hand, and it's very light compared to our F100. It snaps with little vibration. It can be used by an eight year old in auto mode, while allowing considerable control for the professional. It feels sturdy. Exposures are amazingly well executed, even with slide film. Focusing without a spot meter isn't as problematic as I thought. I found I could generally trust the automatic focus, with maybe one shot per roll of 36 disappointing me. A Minolta Maxxum 5 that I tried out was far quicker and more accurate. My 70-300mm f3.5 lense took quite a while to roll into focus on the N65, but it did find its mark. If you have the time and patience to read the manual, it becomes apparent that a lot of options and flexibility is built in here.
Weakness:
Won't meter with older Nikkor lenses. Fairly slow auto focus, but not a serious problem. No mirror lock-up, although vibration is far less than with my old FE2, so I haven't really missed it yet. This is a good news/bad news camera, but overall, I am fairly impressed. Just returned from shooting hundreds of slides in Ecuador. Customer Service I have not received my warranty checks yet, which I find disturbing. Similar Products Used: FE2, 6006, F100, Nikonos, many other brands. |

everything for the budding photgrapher. good line of cameras
Weakness:
manual needs better wording little more backend wieght (Solved with a battery pack) I have always been a p&s kind of photgrapher. having five cats, we bought a digital becuase there are so many shots you want. anyhow, I started taking a photgrapy class in college. found out that I needed a manual 35 camera. my first choice was to buy a 20 year old canon t50. I worked that camera to death and streched it so far to what it was capable of. but alot of what I was doing was guess work. the T50 does not have a TTL meter. after about 6 weeks of the t50, and getting ok shots. I felt it was time to move further. I went between a canon rebel 2000 and a rebel ti. well I was stuck on the brand I guess becuase of the t50. A friend in the class suggested to test out a nikon n65. I read reviews on the rebels, and all gave good reviews, but I thought I would look into the n65. I am glad I picked the n65 now. I have more confidence in the camera now and it helps me do more of the shots I want (low light and night photos) I love this camera. it gives me confidence in getting the shots I want. the class requires you take the shots manually. I have not quite figured out the camera but I am getting close to the level and familarity on the t50. I also bought a battery pack for the main reason of the batteries for the n65 are expensive and fade fast in the cold. the added bonus of this was the camera seems awkard in my hand. I feel I have small hands. but the battery pack balanced out the wieght (I have a larger lens on it) and gave me a better grip so I could move my hand to get better shots. we are going on vaction this weekend and I am going to burn about ten rolls with confidence but probebly only have on manual becuase I want good shots. I still have yet to figure out the blinking exposure meter in some situations but I am getting there. Overall for the money, this is a great starter or intermidiate camera, but you can start here and continue in the nikon line and use it as a back up. I baby everything electronic so I am not worried about the construction Similar Products Used: canon t50 P&S cameras olympus digital |

Light, compact Good beginner slr Reasonable price Big step up from N50/N55
Weakness:
Built in speedlight Plastic construction Slow flash sync: 1/90 One dial command interface No manual DX settings Vari-Program modes Difficulty focusing fast action and low light I purchased this camera last summer so that I could learn photography. It has been a good first slr, but after almost a year the problems are emerging. Different subjects, especially contrasty situations throw the meter for a loop. I correct for this but if you take the camera out in the field a lot this could get frusterating. I shoot high school sports as well and the AF hunts constantly, I pre-focus but some shots are difficult to use this technique with. Flash sync is only 1/90, in low light situations, like school auditoriums this isn't preferable. If your a casual/travel shooter this camear is light enough to fit in a daypack with lunch and clothes and not be a problem, but if you want to apply this camera to applications like photojournalism or outdoor photography where the lighting situations change a great deal than I would suggest a N80 or N90s. Weakness:
The built-in flash poped up and jumped me for the first few pictures (you get used to it after a bit)not realy a product weakness, but operator weakness ;) First SLR camera. Has been very easy to learn with. Nice weight. Has taken some very nice pictures. Lots of different settings alow many different picture types. This camera was suggested to me by a friend who has been doing photography for 35+ years, as a great camera to get my feet wet with. If your thinking about getting into photography and don't want to invest a ton of $$, this is a great camera to start with for sure. Customer Service None needed.
